Are personal injury attorneys’ days numbered due to autonomous vehicles?

Spinoff from the personal injury thread.
As self driving vehicles improve and become more prevalent, accidents will become far less prevalent and the litigation industry will suffer. Do you think these attorneys are trying to cash in now before the future ends their golden goose?

It's going to be funny watching Ford, Google, and other gigantic company going against PI lawyers for the first 10 years or so.

Yes, many will die off, but the bigger ones will shift to suing the software makers and car companies, class action lawsuits, medical malpractice, etc.

They will move on to sue the programers and engineers who designed the vehicle.
There will still be accidents but they may be reduceded significantly.

There still the oilfield, after all...
But yeah, I'd think that any tech that makes it less likely for one person to hurt/kill another person through their direct action will almost certainly reduce the number of personal injury claims.
My guess if you see these guys, along with LEO's who need that revenue from traffic tickets which will no longer be written to be VERY against these things being rolled out as the tech becomes closer and closer to workable on a large scale.

Are there self-driving vehicles operating on the streets today? If not, when will it begin? I am skeptical that this will ever happen. If it does, there will be accidents, and, flesh and people responsible for operation of self-driving vehicles, hence, people to sue.

20 years is a very liberal mandate. Its going to take awhile. A lot of people are going to fight it for a long time.

If you look at the stats from the google cars, there will be a tiny tiny amount of at fault accidents by the autonomous vehicle. Every other accident will be recorded to be the fault of the human controlled vehicle.

You should also add Insurance Defense attorneys to your title. If PI work goes away there is no need for all of those defense lawyers.
