Random example unrelated to this thread. I remember when mission impossible 2 came out and time or some other magazine had an article on the "tech" featured in the movie and when we could expect that type of stuff to actually exist IRL. One of the items was the sunglasses with the HUD. The article stated that this type of technology was NEVER going to happen as it was impossible to project images and such on sunglasses for a whole number of reasons I don't remember.
Less than 15 years later we have HUD sunglasses/goggles.
So from "will never exist" to "mass produced" in about a decade and a half.
