I had a 92 Silverado that I kept around because it had sentimental value. It looked like a piece of shite but still ran good. I would occasionally get unsolicited offers from people for it. I finally sold it to a Chevy dealer who fixed it up really nice and used it as a utility driver for the dealership.

I can agree on the Broncos. I have an OJ Bronco that I picked up about 4-5 months ago, and with all of the interest and thumbs up I get from people on the road, I think once the new ones come out, the interest in the older ones will soar.

I debated restoring an 83 Buick Riviera convertible but the original workmanship is weak, the early electronics are hard to find, and not much value. I stead I will put a new top on it and it can be an occasional parade car.

There will always be some highlights of cars from every era. That said, some random 80's car does not, and will not draw attention as did some random car from 30 years prior back during the 80's. No one now notices a Chrysler K car or Chevy Lumina as they once did a common Chevy Bel Air or flat head Ford given the same age.

Classic era Mustangs were being restored by the late 1970's. Most now get recycled. You see more listings on ebay for cars from the 60's than the 80's.

My first truck was a 2000 GMC sonoma, I would love to have it back and fully restored!

I have a 66 chevy c10 i have restored. I go to car shows from time to time. And several pickups from the 80s are vwry popular, especially the square body chevys. Dont see many cars though... and hadnt seen much from the 90s outside of firebirds/camaros/corvettes

You won't see that much for 80/90's vehicles until the value of said vehicles increases and that is direct relation to how desirable/collectible it is. Because 60/70's muscle cars could be ordered with a ton of options and packages, it made them colletible/desirable and thus worthy of ground up factory restorations. That became less prevelant in the 80's/90's but i'm sure still did happen.

For example, you should see a steady increase in mid 80's buick grand national's because of the desirability of turbo v6. Same goes for Cobra fox body models because of the cobra package.

By in large though, 80/90's model vehicles are resto mod's because they were more mass produced with less unique options that made collectors want to restore to factory.

Jeeps and trucks are all I see from that era being restored. Most of those though, are restomods. Got an '81 Scrambler that i started a major rock crawler build on about 10 years ago. I was going hot and heavy for about a year then life and work happened. I still have it and my guy constantly remind me of it.

I bet they were resto mod's though, right? I just don't see alot of factory restored Silverado/K models restored to factory except for 4x4 versions when i go to car shows.

I have a 92 Fox body buts its a resto mod my father and I built. But i agree, don't see many 90's muscle cars because they were so anemic and full of EPA restrictions.

I have to admit I don’t hear much about the 80’s cars getting this treatment yet. Delayed or not going to happen?

Joe Rogan and Dale Earnhardt Jr. have a interesting talk about this on Dale Jr's appearance on the podcast.

Basically, No.
I'm sure some certain models will gain favor with restorations from that time period, but not near the level of prior years models
