I tend to like the biblical names that have a somewhat modern ring to them…. Eg. Lucas, Noah

Michael was the 12th most popular boy's name in 2020 (still pretty popular). Statistics going back to 1900 show it had never been higher than 13th before 1943 when it was 10th. From 1943 through 2016 it remained in the top 10 and had a long streak at #1.

Mary has fallen off drastically in popularity. In 2020 it was the 124th most popular girls name. From 1900-1946 it was #1 every year and it remained top 10 until 1972 when it fell to 13th and it has been steadily falling since then.

The top 10 most popular boys names in 2020 are still fairly traditional, some obviously really old names actually:

1. Liam
2. Noah
3. Oliver
4. Elijah
5. William
6. James
7. Benjamin
8. Lucas
9. Henry
10. Alexander

Girls seem a little more modern but still mostly traditional:

1. Olivia
2. Emma
3. Ava
4. Charlotte
5. Sophia
6. Amelia
7. Isabella
8. Mia
9. Evelyn
10. Harper

They aren't gone but replaced with fancier sounding names like John Michael & Mary Grace or Mary Katherine... as in they go by the first and middle name.

I mean, if we're being real, these names aren't any worse than travel ball names. It comes from the same principle of parents wanting their child to have a "unique" name. Black parents and white parents just prefer a different aesthetic.

Is Jaxston really a better name than Tyrone? I'd argue that it's worse.

For guys, strong traditional names tend to project people you can count upon, who aren’t so easily moved one war or another. Men who will be there when needed.

This was part of my thought process with my son's name. Also considered origin, meaning, what a nickname might be and how it sounded if/when I screamed his full name.

Took a similar thought process with my daughter, but had to compromise a bit with the ex on that name.

Lots of names were Biblical. Younger generation not into that. Maybe Lucifer or Judas becoming popular soon. Definitely not Karen.

I just commented about this on another thread... The kids on my nephews baseball team are:

Charlie, Jack, Luke, Rob, Evan, William, Harrison etc..

My friends have kids named, Emma, Matthew (x2), Benjamin, Max, Abby, John, Aaron and Nathan. Normal names are still normal amongst non trashy families

My wife taught at a really shiatty school in lower Alabama, the kind where 3rd graders were having sex...

These same 3rd graders that could fuk couldn't spell their own names. She had to tape a piece of paper with their name on it to their desks. Out of a class of 21 kids, only 3 tested above pre-primer levels.

Our future.
