I've seen 3 in my life.

1 at a trailhead in Marianna, FL at Florida Caverns State Park.

1 down the street from my work beside a little creek bridge here in north Pensacola.

and this 1 at St. Mark's NWR south of Tallahassee that exploded out of the marsh like 7 feet in the air out of nowhere. It was hunting something.

"There are about 3 million bobcats..."

And yet people are certain that what they just got a glimpse of was a Mountain Lion.

I've heard both more than I actually see them. They are out there, even in suburbs.

I’ve seen several while deer hunting but I haven’t hunted in 15 years.

Maybe we just have a lot of them in the area I hunt, but I see a few every year out at my camp. I’ve shot one every year for the past 5 years now.

I’ll give them the stealth award though. I NEVER hear them. They make deer seem loud

Has to be the black jaguar. Those frickers can stalk you for days without you knowing.

I would say deer have the best alertness, not stealth. But it’s a problem with motor vehicles because their alertness is so overtuned they get sensory overload and go haywire.

I've seen one bobcat in the wild, oddly near our subdivision in the Atlanta metro. I have heard them several times.

I think they sleep in dens during the day and hunt at night

They are crepuscular (most active during dawn and dusk) but yes, most of the animals listed are diurnal and would be easier to see during the day vs a crepuscular or nocturnal animal.

For being extremely common but rarely seen moles may be the winner. But they’re cheating

They hang around the LSU lakes. I was running a couple of years ago, and one trotted right across my path, feet from me, coming from the churches and headed towards Uhigh.
