Took a shot at one bowhunting. Have it on video. When my arrow got to where he was he was not even in the frame.

You ever seen a deer mouse? There are multiple billions of them in the USA and most people have never seen one. We run a lot of underground drainage pipe in our farm fields and I see them a lot when repairing old tile lines. Most people I have shown a picture to have never seen one.

I see several a year while hunting. I was hunting a river levee once, some guys pulled up 600 yards down the levee and started shooting into the levee. A few seconds later a pair of bobcats came out of the woods on top of the levee and just watched those guys target practice for twenty to thirty minutes. Another time I was wood duck hunting a bayou waiting on the shooting time when I saw movement coming down the bank, it was a big bobcat that walked out onto a log half way across the bayou directly across from me and laid down on the very end a few minutes before the Woodrow’s started dropping in. That one hauled arse when fire came out the end of my barrel.

Found a bobcat kitten one time while bushhogging, it didn’t even have its eyes open yet. Assuming the mom dropped it while moving the litter. I wanted to keep it as a pet but my parents wouldn’t let me.

Jaguarundi is much more secretive than a bobcat.

I see multiple every year deer hunting. Watched one pop a squat and pee on a pipeline once. A fox later came out and rolled in it.
I also called one in from 200 yards out to right under my stand by squealing like a wounded rabbit with my mouth.
But you’re right, you’re not going to just randomly see them without spending a good bit of time in their territory.

My husband and I paddled our canoe across the pond so I could fully commit to the role of a barefoot, 5'0” feral swamp goblin, shrieking at a bobcat to drop our duck from its jaws. The bobcat glared at me with pure, uncut hatred and absolutely complied, after a pause — and the mamma duck, Tina, lived to quack another day and raise her ducklings.

I kilt one on my hunting property and had her mounted. She is in my office and we affectionately call her “Babs” after Barbara Streisand. This post was edited on 6/29/26 at 11:12 pm
