There are about 3 million bobcats in North America
That’s 3x as many bears
3x as many elk
10x as many bald eagles
Yet I’ve never seen a wild bobcat

I think they sleep in dens during the day and hunt at night

I remember barely seeing a bobcat while I was in a climber hunting. Minutes earlier I had been watching a squirrel on the ground maybe 20 ft from my tree. Next thing I know I hear a loud whatever you call a squirrel screaming noise, and bobcat was trotting off with it. Never saw the pounce.

Cats as a whole man. They are built for the wild. A stray cat can kill and eat pretty much anything small enough and survive. I’ve seen a few bobcats on hunting trips and drives through the county. Wanted to light one up with a 30/30 once but just watched it walk past the stand like it was on an evening stroll.

Most people mistake them for large house cats

quote:

One of the easiest ways to know if a bobcat has passed through is by spotting bobcat tracks.

Tracks are round, about 2 inches wide, with retractable claws that don’t usually show (unlike dogs).
They can be confused with large domestic cats, but the stride and claw absence give them away.
In sandy Florida soil, their prints often appear along resting sites, hollow logs, and rural trails.

I see one every couple of years while hunting, but fur bearing predators usually hunt at night.

I’ve seen a shite load of them and have come within a few feet of them a couple times. I had to run one off a doe I shot one time and stand up to run one off during a turkey hunt.

I’ve seen bobcats but they are a rare sight. Foxes are another very stealthy animal

Owls to prey. They know we aren't going to hurt them and don't really try to hide from us - and they produce virtually zero noise when swooping in on prey. It's wild.

ETA:

And I've seen two bobcats in the wild. They were surprisingly smaller than I had anticipated.

I definite see a bobcat about once every couple years. Same place every time. Early in the morning when I am riding my bike it crosses the street right where I cross another small road. It must live in the wetlands/intercoastal area near me.

Pic I took a couple years ago on our family land. It’s a still shot from a video, was probably 60 yards from me. It tried to chase some birds, didn’t succeed, went back in the woods.

Eta: Well technically I took a video not a pic.

I hunt 30-35 days a year. In 40 years I can count on one hand the bobcats ive seen in the wild.

Took a shot at one bowhunting. Have it on video. When my arrow got to where he was he was not even in the frame.
