The economic tidal wave of the virus has yet to start. Or, just a little with waiters and some other service folks not working.
But, soon, very soon, it's going to get bad for everyone in the private sector, except for the medical profession.
I wonder if government workers will still get paid. I imagine so.

Yes. At least temporarily.

We produce and test electronics for the D.O.D. Cant take that stuff home... so...

They are going to start temp scanning us soon. If anyone ends up testing positive they are sending everyone home. About 2000 people.

I am very concerned. Its business as usual right now but if one person gets tested positive (and I suspect a few there would love for this to happen) we go home, quit delivering product, and slam down the tubes.

Eta: facility is in new orleans so it's a matter when someone shows up with it if they havent already.

It’s going to be bad. And if this lasts more than a couple of weeks, it’s going to be really fricking bad.

As somebody whose been in the workforce for less than a year, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit nervous being that I have zero seniority.

For the short term, no, but consider a month of this, and it gets bad. I think chances at this point are even that we wreck our economy (for the near term, not long term) for the sake of not jamming up hospitals.

The lawsuits have already started with companies suing their insurance carriers for coverage they don’t have for business interruption. New Jersey introduced a bill making it mandatory for insurance companies to pay, even if there is no courage. That will certainly be challenged...even after the threat is over, this is going to go on for some time and more will suffer the ramifications of drawn out legal battles.

An extended family member of mine works as a regional supervisor for DOT and told me he and his crew were sent home this Monday for two weeks, with pay. I have mixed feelings as I’m glad they are getting paid but know the private sector couldn’t afford to send that many people home with pay.

Ironically these guys are the ones who cut and spray the highway and interstate rights of way and could possibly continue working with little to no contact with anyone with minor modification to getting to and from their job site.

If a large corporate, the more senior guys tend to be let go first as they make the most money...so you got that going for you!

My brother in law is losing his effective Friday (trading firm) and my other brother in law has been informed that large layoffs are coming (E&P).

As for me, we’ve been told that no layoffs will occur during the pandemic, but I have zero doubt they will occur shortly after.

I think 15-20% unemployment is possible if this lasts more than a month, which I think it will. Entire industries are being destroyed and people don’t understand the collateral damage that their destruction will cause.

I'd have to do it to myself. One project lingering since last summer, when funding fell through, was just financed last week. Everything else on hold, otherwise no one contacting me or responding at all, be it new business or existing projects

I will probably be the last one standing but I know several of my fellow nuclear physicists who are getting pretty nervous. I can picture myself smashing subatomic particles all by my lonesome in the near future.

I work in animal nutrition. My business has gotten a lot better with everyone buying up beef, pork and chicken.

Not really worried about it. Annoyed is more accurate. Fate has seen fit to take giant shits on me on a regular basis so this is really just another obstacle to overcome on my long slow march to oblivion.

My son had his pay cut in half. Will lose his job if things dint get better by mid-May.

He lives in Manhatten and the company he works for has clients like Samsung, Michael Kora, etc. The clients will host big events to promote their new products. The company is the promoter of these events and produces the experience. He flies all over the world. But all events have been cancelled both world wide and nationwide.

If the company can just stay afloat long enough so these events can be rescheduled and new events be booked.

A new economy will come out of this.

More people working from home is one change.

Probably less restaurants, more people eating at home, hello fresh type stuff. Grocery delivery.

This virus is drop kicking up into the future.

We were slowly headed there in the next 7 years or so but by Christmas we will already be there. Almost a decade shift into the future.

DO. NOT. WANT.

Hopefully people learn the value and joy of being around other people and in general being friendly. Not further become shut ins.
