A house in the middle of 30 acres, 25 minutes from the edge of the city is not a suburb. It might be NEAR a suburban area but that’s not the same thing at all.

Serious question about moving to rural areas: are meth-heads violent? They seem to be more akin to a mangey stray dog - a nuisance more than anything.
What really caused this problem more than anything is the vilification of the police. If, for instance, New Orleans had 2,000 cops instead of 400, it would be much safer and very much livable.

I left Louisiana and moved to the DFW metroplex about a month ago. With the exception of visiting my parents, I have no intentions of ever going back.

This isn’t rural?
It doesn't matter what the land looks like, it is the proximity to a good size city. I live in a pretty large city and you can go 10 minutes from my house and see the exact same land type.

not specifically out of the south but definitely Louisiana. Recently applied for a position in PA but actively keeping eyes open for any appealing locations.

In Dixie's Land
Ill take my stand
To live and die in Dixie
I won't be moving out of the south, but I will move out of Louisiana when I retire. There are greener pastures out there.

you do know about the Holder Plan? The campaign to Section 8 the entire country?
A lot of our rural areas are now being swallowed up by future rental/Section 8 slums courtesy of DR Horton and DSLD. Look no further than St. Tammany Parish.

Lady in texas complaints about small towns will be just the same in a rural area outside of a big city though.

Anyone seriously considering moving out of the south
Yup. That seed was planted a few years ago, and now it's in full motion. I'll be out of Baton Rouge within the year. Property is already lined up in Utah. My kids deserve a better place to grow up.

Pic from the backyard of my "non-rural" property. And have a pipe while you're at it.
