quote:not true imo, especially when talking about stuff like schools and things for kids. living on 30 acres within 20-30 minutes of a mid size city and 30 acres actually out in the country are completely different things.
will be just the same in a rural area outside of a big city though.
i grew up in actual backwoods, rural area but later moved to a suburb of a city. the difference in schools and extracurricular is night and day.

I cant wait to GTFO of Louisiana. I want a quaint town in the mountains with low crime, four seasons, backpacking trails, and fly fishing streams

Proximity to hospitals, urgent cares, emergency vets, movie theaters or concert venues, restaurants, specialty stores, an airport, big box stores, car dealerships, banks, post office or fed ex/ups, pharmacy, etc etc etc are vastly different 30 minutes out of a medium sized city vs 2 hours out in the country. We chose a "small town" that doesn't identify as a suburb close to some med sized cities with amenities. And two hours from a bigger city with an international airport, luxury car dealerships, and other larger things we may need.

You have a two hour drive from here to Lexus or Infiniti dealerships and lots of transplants/retirees have them.

30 acres 30 minutes from the edge of the city IS in the country. Good heavens

An exurb (or alternately: exurban area) is an area outside the typically denser inner suburban area, at the edge of a metropolitan area, which has some economic and commuting connection to the metro area, low housing density, and growth. It shapes an interface between urban and rural landscapes holding a limited urban nature for its functional, economic, and social interaction with the urban center, due to its dominant residential character.

Because of this widespread, senseless violence?
Nope, plenty of places where that isn’t an issue.

Not a big issue. They have infrastructure that LA doesn't.

Exactly! He thinks he lives in the country. Lots of people have never actually been to the true rural backwoods. Pick a parish like East or West Carroll, Tensas, Red River, or Bienville. Spend a little time in those places. Then you'll have some idea why some of us say not just any small town will do and many are less than idyllic.

You’re right. Southern cities like Chicago, Philadelphia, NYC, San Fran, and Los Angeles are clearly killing the South.
Except, maybe its not the entire South?

Yes, but not for the usual reasons. I've lived all over the world and I miss seasons. My retirement plan is the Northeast, preferably Vermont.

Yeah no shite. I give it 10 years tops before the rot infects formerly nice areas. Maybe sooner, I mean parts of Covington went to shite fast.

I moved out of the south because it doesn't have any mountains or harsh winters

I love Seattle. My point is OP obviously has never left his county. Every city has fantastic and terrible locations.
