My niece just moved to BR snd is moving into an apartment on Bayou Fountain Avenue? Anyone live there recently and can give an idea of life in that area. She is 40 has had some tough times etc and trying to get her life back together. No pics. She has moved here with a friend from southwest Louisiana.

I lived at the end of Bayou Fountain (the section that backs up to Governor) as a student in the late 80s. It was utopia. Not so much today

Its acutally worse in person

I honestly hope she is at least at the other end away from Gardere

It's actually undergone an expansion in recent years.

And by expansion, I mean it's now called Bayou Blood Fountain.

In/by the meadow bend neighborhood is fine and safe because there’s plenty of new neighborhoods next to it that have kept it safe, but do not go south across Starring or west across Burbank though.

I lived there in 1987. Was almost brand new then. I remember thinking I was way the frick out and way too far from campus.

We rented one of those apartments about 32 years ago for a couple of college kids and another relative down on his luck and I stayed with them some of the time.

While it was sort of run down, we didn't experience any bad moments other than a cold arse winter there in '94.

What I remember most, was Jackie Kennedy's death just as we were packing up to move.

It’s quite back there. Does she have any kids? She’s right by Traction, that’s travelball central in BR.

It's definitely not great. Pretty rough area surrounded by decent areas.

There have been multiple, unrelated homicides on Bayou Fountain Avenue in Baton Rouge, LA, over the years. The most notable recent cases include:

2020 Murder: 20-year-old Tyler Batiste was shot and killed after answering a knock at his door on the 8400 block of Bayou Fountain Ave. A 17-year-old suspect, Johntrell Banks, later turned himself in and was charged with first-degree murder.

2019/2021 Case: The Baton Rouge Police Department investigated the homicide of 41-year-old Cathy Watson, whose body was discovered off Bayou Fountain Ave. A suspect, Gerald Smith, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals in connection with her shooting death.

2014 Murder: 24-year-old Hancy Sanchez was shot in the head over a cell phone outside an apartment complex on the 8000 block of Bayou Fountain Ave. An 18-year-old suspect, James Mills, was arrested and convicted of second-degree murder.

Bayou Fountain is a great place to surround yourself with everything that will make you fall back into your past life.

I lived there in the early 00’s and was very close to being one of those statistics in those murders. It seems that it was some sort of proving ground for the “teens” that live off Gardere. Pretty much the exact situations that were in those examples happened to me. Still freaks me out to this day of what could have happened.

It’s sad, because the area wasn’t so bad when I moved there and before that.

To the OP, I would look elsewhere. Things are only getting worse there.
