I miss the Baton Rouge I grew up in, in the 70s and 80s.

Of course we missed it. Moved away in the late 80's after school (part-time while working, took me a while). Moved to the East Coast. I missed:
- people I met along the way
- living in a sports town immersed w everyone passionate about the same teams
- music/nightlife scene, food, fishing
--- hot bald mudbugs on a Friday night from a roadside stand is underrated
- 3-4 hours from my folks in the panhandle
- political comedy of state politics
- having the weather turn from cold one day in January to shorts weather the next day

I have moved away before and I loved it. I'm leaving BR again as soon as a I can and I'm never coming back. There are good folks everywhere.

To actually answer your question, yes, I miss some things about it, but if I'm being honest, what I really miss is that time in my life. Therefore, even if I moved back, that Baton Rouge no longer exists.

from a few friends that have moved away it seems it depends on where you lived and the churches and schools your family attended...

this city changed in 2005 with Katrina...

Not one bit.

I do miss Lafayette though (lived there 4 years).

Some people call it a Kaiser roll, I call it a Slingblade.

I don’t know if I miss it because I’ve been gone a long time. Only an hour away, but nostalgia hits when I “go home”‘ to visit family. Hit me tgiving driving down i10 to take the i12 split to Denham. I lived some in Goodwood area, and other family in Greenwell Springs now Central. It was good back then. Central was “the country.” I could live in the old BR. Real estate was fair and good schools and activities. Good malls. The criminal element stayed wherever the was they lived. Sherwood Forest was wealthy. All we had was a BK and strip shopinng center in Goodwood. Broadmoor, Tara, etc were good. Towne Center was a horse farm. Yeah, sometimes I miss home.

This will be another thread filled with people who left Baton Rouge who will consistently remind you how happy they are elsewhere. So happy in fact that they spend most their time on a message board to let you know it.

Nailed it.

You call that moving away? You’re not even 5 hours down the road.
