Born and raised in Green Bay, went to UW.
Madison is amazing and I'd consider moving back there. Milwaukee, as someone else said, is a nice town and is really underrated.

Madison has a reputation as one of the best college towns in the country (and one of the best places for recent college grads), but Wisconsin’s capital city has so much more to offer. The university means there’s a vibrant, funky and youthful vibe to most everything that happens here, but you’ll find young families strolling Capital Square alongside local politicians.
Madison is ranked so high on this year’s Top 100 Best Places to Live list because it excels in nearly every category across the board. The food scene is stellar, from cheap eats to fine dining, with a wide range of styles and flavors. There is plenty of green space within the city and tons of lakefront since it sits on an isthmus, but it’s also within 50 miles of 21 State Parks, forests and recreation areas. Though the city could benefit from more diversity, Madison is a friendly, easy-to-navigate city that’s chock full of things to do and see — many of which are free through the state’s flagship university.

the only thing that really stood out to me was there were hardly any good looking women and everyone is fat as hell.
Couldn’t be farther from the truth. I’ve been a couple times and the women there are incredible and a hell of a lot of fun. Lots of cool people there.

I always laugh when I see someone say there are no good looking women in the Midwest. Lots of purebreds up there.
They just don’t care as much about getting dolled up.

It's crazy how much different it is. Bringing a date to a football game is about as foreign as it gets to us.

Yah it's probably the cheapest major league city in America outside of maybe Buffalo. I enjoyed my time there.
Posted on 6/24/19 at 5:19 pm to Chucktown_Badger
I never cared for that myself

Madison sucks IMO. There isnt enough housing and you can have a much better quality of life in Milwaukee for cheaper. People in Milwaukee are fairly conservative for a decent sized city. Madison is crazy left and I hate the architecture there.
If you are renting or buying apt or condo look at lofts in Walkers Point or downtown or apts / coops on the East side. Everything walkable. Third ward is overpriced. If you want to buy a house look in Wauwatosa or Whitefish Bay.
Riverfront Lofts are a fantastic deal if you can find a unit there to buy or rent - downtown is fun with new arena and rise of the Bucks, yet still undervalued as the formerly grand Wisconsin Avenue is starting to show signs of life finally.

Milwaukee is also one hour to Madison and maybe 1.5 to Chicago. So a nice location.
We may head up there for a few days for the 4th to hit summerfest and bump around town, just to get out of the city.

Grew up near Green Bay and went to college in the middle of WI with frequent trips down to Milwaukee and Madison. You will get used to the cold the same way I got used to the heat in the South.

Cheaper, yes, better quality of life? Maybe.

In parts possibly, but Milwaukee is pretty damn blue.

Accurate.

What? Maybe downtown, but the capitol is one of the most beautiful in the country (and only 4' shorter than the US capitol...fun fact for you). And the university has a ton of old school university architecture.

My dad grew up there and went to school there. Nice town.

Our company is based just outside of Milwaukee, in fact I'm up there now. I make it up here 4 to 5 times a year.
It's probably the whitest and safest place I've ever been. People are insanely friendly and outgoing, I always have a good time here. Winters are brutal, and I mean brutal. We've all experienced cold, it's not cold here. It's flat out painful when it's bad out. I've experienced -20 here and it's different than any kind of cold you've ever seen in the south, even up in the mountains on ski trips.
As far as the women, this place is loaded with heifers. But at the same time, there's a boat load of drop dead gorgeous blonds running around. Problem is, they are heavily out numbered by the fatties so every swinging dick in town is being thrown at them. It seems oddly scarce on average women. It feels like the majority will either die a virgin or could have been a Playboy centerfold.
They are also huge beer drinkers here. Microbrews everywhere, I've had some great beer up here.
All in all, I could easily live here if the weather weren't so bad.

Yep. I loved it there. Great fishing and hunting right outside of town. Quite a few bars within walking distance of campus and a very tolerant police dept

If you're a progressive you'd love Madison.
Outside Madison and Milwaukee it's pretty great.
You will frost your nuts by November, possibly Oct, being from down south. -20 in January isn't that unusual.

Spent ~6 years in Madison, which is awesome. College town. State capital. Growing tech sector. Primary driver of economic growth in the state. Easily the best place to live in the state.
Milwaukee is a mixed bag. Also has a growing economy. Some people prefer it to Madison because it is bigger and has more going on, culturally. Some really nice areas and some not so nice areas. Lots of ethnic segregation -- still has old-school Polish and German neighborhoods and stuff like that -- you know -- "ethnic European" stuff dating back to the late 1800s.
All of Wisconsin gets cold in October and remains so through April. Jan-Feb are pretty bleak. Daytime highs in the mid 20s. The worst part, though, is how long the winter lasts. Nothing worse than checking social media and seeing your Southern friends enjoying nice weather in March/April. Meanwhile, there will still be snow on the ground in Wisconsin.

It’s a great white paradise in the summer.

These Louisiana folk seem to be big outdoorsman, which Wisconsin has in spades. Hunting, fishing, biking, hiking, swimming, boating, snowmobiliing, ice fishing, shite....you name it.
I feel like these guys would get a kick out of some old school ice fishing.
Also, I'll second just how much fun the people are. Super nice and love to have a good time. I'm not a brewers fan but we'll go up for one game a year just because it's a blast.

Average high is 59 in October, so it's not terrible, but it can get down to what we used to call "hitting weather".
