Yes. I had one for work that I kept in my backpack in the truck of my car.

Had one maybe JR and SR years of HS and throughout college. I remember giving girls that I met in bars my beeper number
I think I got my first cell phone a few years after college.
We are same age (42 going on 43). All I had in college was a beeper. A clear blue green one my bf at the time gave me. Can remember always having a ton of quarters in my car so I could stop at a pay phone if I got a page. Crazy how back then I still was able to meet friends out. Most of us didn’t have cell phones either. Between pagers and pay phones and being able to call your answering machine from a pay phone to check your messages....we still managed to meet up and go out.
I too didn’t get my first cell until after college. It’s actually what I bought with my first paycheck as a nurse in 2001

This is the exact model we had to carry when we covered the hospital during residency.
I have flashbacks from that sound going off at 3 am and waking me up for a new nurse asking if she could give an ICU patient some Benadryl.

Yeah, I turned 43 about a month ago. I don't remember what year it was but this was my first cell phone and it was definitely after college. I'm kind of grateful there aren't videos and pictures of me all over the internet from that age anyway

I learned the hard way as a brand new nurse to not page a doctor at 1 am just because the parent of one of the kids I’m caring for is demanding a suppository cause their kid is constipated

My first job we all had one. The best was when we were in person and needed to follow up on something. “If I page you with a 1 that means ____, if 2 that means _____”.
We also all had an 800 number where we could call from pay phones for free to check vmail. If we paged a 0 that means I just left you a vmail.
Later I got a phone, our huge company negotiated a great price at the time of only 25cents per min to use it.

Still have one. Hospitals still utilize the technology.

This is embarrassing but I had a fake dummy pager that I bought from a gas station that I carried around for a few months just to look cool. I guess no one ever asked for the number because I don't know what I would have told them. I did go on to own a functioning pager eventually.

In high school one of my buddies who sold weed got a pager so people would quit calling his house. Number was 439-9333 (439-weed
)

Still carry one. Most may be surprised to know that certain professions have buildings that prevent cell coverage from entering and also large amounts of rural areas less than 15 minutes from major cities have no cell coverage.

I had a Radiofone “digital” pager.
It would receive up to about 150 characters.
It was a (504) 639 prefix number.
Looked pretty much like this:

When I was a co-op in college, I had an old pager that would beep 3 times, then would play the audible message that the caller left for you.
I had women beep me throughout the day saying, "Max, this is your mother. Just making sure you are wearing clean underwear today".

I still carry one for nights on call, cell phone service is unreliable where I live out in the sticks. I still have dumbasses who will say "We tried calling you four times" when right there with my cell number is my pager.

I had one in 96 or 97. I only used it for a few months. It was more trouble than what it was worth.

I did too and carried around two dollars in quarters all day.
You needed that calling card homie! Who remembers dialing 10-10-220 to make a long distance call? Or waiting for 7pm or a weekend to call anyone on your Nokia cell phone because you had that nights and weekend plan?

When we up graded to the message style they only took 10 second voice messages. I started getting voice messages for some guys wife with the wrong number. I got this message, you no good cheating MF. Then a few minutes later new message, I’m throwing all you stuff in the yard. Then a few minutes later, I can’t believe you were F...king my friend. This went on for an hour. I finally called her and told her she had the wrong number after it got boring.
