Got assigned one when I worked for the state. If I know them well enough, it's probably still in the drawer I put it in right after the meeting they handed them out.

I'm in my late 30s. You weren't shite if you didn't have a pager in h.s.

Hell yeah. At one point I had to get a new one and I would wear both.. And say one was for business and one was for pleasure.

But I think by the time I started college I had a cell phone.

I remember.. I guess maybe the 2002, 2003 season.. Being in Tiger Stadium being able to check scores of other games on my phone. I thought that was the coolest shite ever. It would take forever to pull up.. Like downloading porn from AOL slow, but it was like a dream come true. I could be at the game and look at the scores of all the other games when I wanted and not have to wait for them to come across the crawl in the stadium..

yep, through work

For some reason my new boss thought we should all have them. It was unquestionably NOT a job where myself or any other co-managers needed a pager. There was no reason in any way, shape or form where I had to be in contact during off hours.

I politely told him that it was unnecessary, and I would not carry with me when I was off. I took the position as something of a favor to friend, and they were not paying me nearly enough to be "on call". If I was home and it went off I said I would of course return the call, but in that case, he should just try and call me at home. It never left my kitchen.

Every so often he would try and test me with it, and try to come down on me for not returning a page, but he knew he had no leverage. He couldnt fire even me if he wanted to.

He was just young and eager, trying to make his mark, and impress the higher ups

......I wonder what happened to him??

I used to send this number to my contractors...800-328-4475. I just tried it....same exact recording as it was in the early 1990's.

Eta....hated my pager. It was the beginning of constant contact.

I had one that I would bring to bars to fool girls into thinking I was somebody important.

Hell yeah. Mid-late 90s. When I first got a phone I wouldn’t leave it on so used both.

Had 1 in 96-98 for personnel use and had 1 from 2000-2002 for work call outs ( I was member of the bomb threat search group and fire monitoring group at my work)

Had one in the late 80s and early 90s. I was an embalmer and had to be available 24/7. Never a good thing when it started ringing.

There are plenty of things from times gone by that people still talk about regularly.

The beeper is something that has completely slipped into the ether of history.
