I know two guys that workout over at Le Boxeur, and both would work me over at this stage.
I'd like to join and learn the ends and outs alone with getting a solid workout/stress relief.
Anyone have any experience with this?

I did
I never actually boxed/sparred though, just went for the workouts
The workouts are fantastic
Pounding on a heavy bag is a huge stress reliever, not to mention great shoulder and cardio work out

Not real big, kinda jacked up though from my youth.
I'm 34 now and know I'm way out of my prime to actually go and compete wih any of these guys, but would be cool to get the basics and techniques down while getting a workout.

I don't but I think they are really cool. There is one in South Jackson but I don't know exactly where it is. There is also a Knockout by my office but I think it's more MMA-type stuff.

I boxed up this gutter punk once in front of the brothers on Carondolet, damn I was proud of myself for that one

I've always wanted to do this, and even try some sparring.
Anything like that in NOLA?

You would have trouble touching a guy with much knowledge at all. When he connects, and he will before you know it, you will swear he had something in his hands...

My grandfather boxed the pro circuit around Nola and gulf coast back in the day. Wonder if any of the old timers at any of the old gyms would happen to have known him.

Yeah I mean how could perfecting punching and counterpunching ever be useful in a fistfight

Yep, a guy that knows how to throw a legit punch, slip a punch, and counter against some dumb shite that probably has no clue how to even get in a proper fighting stance will have no chance.

That's got to be one of the dumbest statements I've ever read. Congratulations, that was impressive.
OP, you in Nola or BR?

Street fighting and boxing are two different animals. You can bust your hands up and they have the advantage.
I trained in California in the 70's and fought in Mexico.
Boxing is a great sport.
You can lose weight and have fun.
It teaches you how to focus, how to balance your body, and throw a proper punch.
Nothing is wrong with not wanting to get in the ring to try your skills out.
Some people have that desire while others just enjoy the training.
If you are curious some gyms may have more experienced guys who will get in the ring and hold back to let you see what it is like.
I see a lot of MMA gyms around BR. I just have not seen an old school boxing club.

Nola
I'm 6'1" with lean muscle, never smoked and have above avg cardio. My wing span could have been a bit longer, reason i hit a wall with my bball career, anywho I'd like to give boxing a go even in my old age of 34.
