Was making bank at 20 something in the oil patch but living in hell. Woke up one night, packed my shite and hauled arse.

Try Baggs, Wyoming for size.

I passed on a $85k/yr job straight out of college doing timberlands management/investment/REIT stuff because it was in BFE west LA. I knew I'd be miserable. Didn't even give it a second thought.
Being happy > $$$
Having money > no money
It was a tough call, but I knew I'd hate every day of my life living there

And by boring, I mean western Nebraska about 50 miles south of South Dakota. And by exceptional pay, I mean $250k +, (OT poor) to practice agricultural law. Asking for SabiDojo, thanks. I personally think he'll love it.
You wouldn't be that far away from Denver. And there is all sorts of beautiful stuff in south dakota. Plus there is effectively no speed limit in south dakota.
I wouldn't do it. But might be worth a year or two there, to build a nest egg.

I wouldn't think twice about moving there for that amount of money. I'm sure there's fine chicks everywhere like on The Ranch on Netflix.

Yup, running downhole oilfield equipment in west Texas.
Great pay but if you're not working, you're not getting paid. And you realize how shitty west Texas is

If you have a family and a few good friends and decent coworkers how much action do you need?
It could be an opportunity to develop a new hobby or appreciate life’s simpler pleasures While beefing up your bank account

It would have to pay a massive amount while having tons of time off so I could use that money and time to travel to interesting places.

I work in Eunice but live in Lafayette. Only at office like 2-3 days a week though. Working on starting up a new company and could possibly relocate to Austin.

Yes, signed every person who has worked an O&G job in Midland, North Dakota, South Texas, Central Pennsylvania, BF Oklahoma, etc
But Midland is far and away the worst on that stellar list of places you listed. Actually, when I think of hell, I think of Midland.

I'd clean all the individual folds of your granny's saggy vagina daily with my tongue for that salary in Topeka, KS.

I refused a high paying job in Midland for those reasons. I think it's my biggest regret so far in my life. Midland sucks, but I could have flown out every weekend and had fun.

Why can't you make $250k practicing law where you want to live. I see no advantage here other than the cost of living would probably be lower depending on where you currently live

I lived in Nebraska for a while.
