How old will you be if you don't go back to school? The same age as if you did, right/

If you want a career requiring a degree then by all means pursue it , whether at LSU or any other university. Seems LSU has indicated you are eligible for re-entry so obviously you had qualificiations tha tvirtually every school in state would accept.

I know a guy who is 6 credit hours from graduation and has been for 20 years.

I make roughly 100k a year with OT and bonus and excellent benefits on top of that.

What do you think you will make coming out of college with say a business degree ? 35-40 k

Then you will hate life more

This. OP, get your degree. But IF you plan on changing careers you better practice living off of what you will make in that new career out of college. I wouldn’t leave a 100k a year job for an entry level position making half that unless you truly enjoy it.

If you are talking about going STEM and maybe staying in O&G where your current experience helps certainly.

Do you not have other career options within your company? I’d figure out if you truly hate your job or if you truly hate that you never finished your degree. It maybe both, but don’t leave a good job for the latter.

This was basically me. I miscalculated because I am an idiot and joined the military, then 9/11 hit.

I went back a few years ago and had to do 2 semesters to finish 12 hours. Decided I may as well take a full course load and that shite was like a vacation.

College is a lot easier when you aren’t hung over every day.

I did. Flunked out in semester 3. Worked in a dead end job and hated it. Went back and graduated with honors and then an MBA. It was much easier after I went back because I had grown up, and I knew what the outcome would be if I partied and failed again. It can be done. Do it.

5 years will fly by, so why not have a degree from LSU when it does?

Would you use credits or claim academic bankruptcy?

I started my second degree at 27. The immaturity level was too much, so I switched to UNO. At LSU, I found it hard to have basic conversations about coursework, because the kids had no life experience, and they were also constantly playing on their computers during class.

At UNO, most students were around 22-24 starting out, and there were plenty of people older than 25 as freshman. I could relate to them better, they were more serious about coursework, and having discussions about material was much easier.

Eta: I flunked out twice during my first degree. Everyone told me to quit. Switched majors to something I really enjoyed, and my GPA for my junior and senior years was 3.5 IIRC

I flunked out of college twice. Ended up with 2 bachelors and a masters degree.
Life’s too short to not be happy.
If a degree will make you happy then go get.

Opportunity cost is hard to overcome.

Let's say 3yrs of lost wages(+3yrs of tuition cost) to persue your LSU degree. Roughly $300K is a lot to overcome.

Almost anywhere with a decent cost of living. Except the OT of course.

Also, not sure how I could survive on that now

What good is money if it doesn’t make you happy? To try to make your dependents happy?

I nearly failed out and went back in my late 20s. Going back and getting my degree was the best thing I’ve ever done.
