Anyone here emotionally attached to a reliable beater?

Got a ‘12 toyota. 145k miles, in over 2 dozen states. Two screws to hold the front bumper. Hit my fair share of pot holes. Oil change every 5k miles and still going strong. Quick cool crisp air in the summer, comfy heater in the winter even though I don’t deserve it bc I rarely change cabin filter. With the exception of not starting twice because of a dead battery, this car has never let me down.
Last month I switched my insurance to liability only, and I felt kind of guilty of not protecting my baby. I think I got another 100k easily.

I’m emotionally attached to not having a note

If you had millions, this problem wouldn’t exist. Your emotions can be bought which makes you a woman.

That’s not even close to a beater in my book.

Got an old 2010 Jeep that's been around for 16 years...
I've never kept a vehicle that long...
Never given a lick of trouble, and even had the original battery until 2021...

No doubt in my mind that if Katrina hadn't flooded and destroyed my 95 Ford Ranger, I'd still have it to this day. It was low mileage for a 10 yr. old truck with only about 50K on it.
I bought an 06 Silverado in October of 05 and it has less than 80K on it and it's near just a few months shy of 20 years old now.

How many times have you had to replace door handles on it? It seemed like I had one break every year.

I have a 1997 Land Cruiser that I will likely never give up. 235k miles. If I cannot fix the current problem, I may seriously think about it. It needs an entire new rear axle housing potentially, which is more than want to fool with.

Thought this thread was gonna go a different way.

My 2017 car has that many miles and I wouldn't consider it a "beater", but shite, maybe it is?
Same as you though. I've had zero issues with it and have no plans to get rid of it any time soon. I plan to get at least 200k out of it and will maybe pass it down to my kids once they are old enough to drive.

I wouldn't consider 145k miles a beater lol
I've got vehicles that have coat hangers as door handles and vice grips to roll down windows. That's what I consider a beater. They don't get used much anymore but they serve a purpose.

Im attached to not having a car note a lot more than I am to my “beater”. My wife and I are rocking two paid off cars with multiple kids. It’d be VERY nice to trade one of them in for a van but just hard to justify it when we’re making it ok without.
We’re lucky in that we have family nearby who all have trucks that we can borrow from when needed.

Got an 07 Camry with 165k miles that’s never needed anything other than an alternator and a 15A auxiliary fuse. I’ve got to find time every month and remember to drive it to keep the fluids moving.
Last few years whenever I know I’ll be doing long hours street parking in SF, I’ll drive the beater.
Did the math recently and in the last several years I think I’ve paid about $4/mile just for insurance

Sold my very nice '03 Mazda Protege5 because it had 258,000 miles on it and was running on 3.5 cylinders getting only 18MPG. I couldn't find a replacement engine anywhere and didn't want to spend the thousands of dollars rebuilding this one.
Bought a 2019 CX-5 Signature (turbo) and guess what? It only gets 18MPG.
DOH!
