Had Geico for years, and I recently had a similar increase. Switched to progressive, which was lower than my original premium with Geico.

Give progressive a call.

I have Progressive and you are right, they started out low. Give them three years. They will be right up there with Geico.

I know this because I had Geico as well. Same song and dance.

Was about to post the same experience but from Safeco to Progressive.

I left Safco for Progressive because premium shot up for no reason only to have the same thing happen with Progressive a few years later.

I hate insurance companies

You definitely should shop car insurance every few years at a minimum.
I find pretty wild swings and significant differences every time.

This isn’t a gotcha post, I’m just trying to explain why everything shot up.

During Covid, companies dropped their rates and gave out dividends/rebates, etc. the DOIs across the country had no problems and let the companies do this almost immediately.

Once the pandemic slowed and traffic started to return to normal, insurance companies can’t just turn on a switch and put the rates back to where the rates were before covid. It takes months/years to get things approved by the DOI.

During that time, driving returned to pre-pandemic levels and in many cases, even higher. Combine that with inflation and insurance companies are now in the hole. Body shop prices have increased by 18% or more and lawsuits from 2022 are now being settled at 2023 prices.

All this combined means insurance companies are losing money. Insurance companies don’t lose money for long, especially ones with stockholders.

Long story short, get used to higher rates.

Yes, I was with Geico for over a decade, they wanted nearly 1500 for 6 mos. I switched to Progressive for nearly half that amount, but it too is creeping up with no accidents or tickets.

WhenI met my wife (no pics), she was paying a little more for Progressive than I was paying for 2 vehicles with similar coverage.
Have Geico that went up. Can't help but think we're basically funding a ridiculous number of TV ads.

If you are not shopping insurance every couple of years, you are overpaying.

The game sucks but they are making bank on the model that most people don't want to spend the time and energy to do it, at least not right away.

good luck.

Have had progressive for four years now. Started real cheap but just renewed for May and it show way up for no reason

It doesn’t really matter who you have in Louisiana if you stay long enough they’re going to screw you eventually

Agreed. I moved our home and auto to State Farm about a year ago from Geico and we pay significantly less than OP for 2 vehicles, granted they are older vehicles.

GEICO did this to me yearly and I finally switched to Progressive. I guess in a few years I’ll have to play the game again.
