There is a price to pay for convenience, but the mobile maintenance isn’t significantly more expensive than an “in-dealership” visit. The operators cost go up significantly, cost for van equipped with tools, jacks, stands, etc.
Those increased costs trickle down to the customers. But, there is the convenience factor…

I know a guy that both he and his wife are real estate agents, they flip houses as well, they pay to have them come to the house to do routine oil changes.

To each their own, I can't imagine what that would run compared to DIY.

I stopped by an auto parts place to buy a coil in Baton Rouge and there was a guy and his wife working on a car in the parking lot. I started a conversation with them and it turned out he was a mobile mechanic and handed me a business card. I had difficulty trying to disassemble some of the parts to replace my coil and gave him a call. For $100 they came by and helped me finish it up. That is all I’ve got.

Last year Ford sent me a letter telling me that there was an important software update for my truck- for free. And that I need to make an appointment with a dealership. I called the dealership and they offered mobile service for the update. I took it. A week later a guy shows up in a van and does the update in about 20 minutes. Beats the hell out of waiting at the dealership for 3 hours to do a 20 minute job. The best part was that it didn't cost me a dime.

I always use mobile mechanics, the non mobile ones just sit there and stare at my vehicle.

Used one for my Kubota tractor - Tim around Folsom (it’s not the business named “Tim’s”). $125/hr. Does a lot of jobs on the fire trucks.
Had sludge in my fuel lines/water in tank. Charged me $187.50 to blow out the lines but didn’t drain the tank. It ran for 5 minutes then died again. Called him back and on March 25 and he said, “I got you on the books.” Talked with him several times since then. Still waiting. After 2 months of no-shows, I’m trying to find someone else but I’ve been on the road a lot.
I can’t believe people operate with so little integrity and accountability these days. If draining a fuel tank is over your head as a mechanic, just f@$king tell me so.

ETA: I even tipped him around $50 both times I used him.

I Used Dave’s Mobile repair to change the hubs on my boat trailer in Slidell last week. Went fishing for the day and when I got back to the camp it was good to go. Yes, the extra hundred dollars I paid to not have the hassle was worth every penny. I was still able to take the client fishing and go about my day. Highly recommend if you find someone reasonable.

Maybe next time have your husband look it up on the internet?

I’m not letting my wife (no pics) be in your situation ever.

Well first off, at least I knew what the issue was and bought the part with the intent to do it on my own. Secondly, I looked up a youtube video and it didn’t match my vehicle. Third, when I called him I asked that he show me how to access the coil instead of him doing it, thus the reason I only paid him $100. I didn’t realize I had to remove the belt and rotate the alternator to remove the old coil. I don’t profess to be a mechanic but can do simple repairs. That is the second time I’ve had discrepancies versus youtube videos with items on this vehicle. Sometimes it doesn’t match exactly what you have.

I've used two, one was like $90 an hr, the other was $85 IIRC. Works well for me.

That’s all I’ve used for 5-6 years when it is something beyond what I’m capable of. They’re typically more affordable because they have much less overhead, and I’ve had 100% good experiences with them.

They’ve really bailed me out a time or three, especially on weekends.

Yep. They were awesome. Not crazy expensive either.

Used a mobile brake changing service. Came out to the office and changed my brake pads in the parking lot. Was about the same price as a mechanic shop, but he was 1000% nicer and didn’t come at me with a bunch of other shite I “needed.”

100% will use them again in the future

I have a guy that lives two streets over who does the majority of my mechanic work for cheap. Changed out a coil pack/spark plug in my F-150 for $40 when the shop charges $180.
