don't know if i ever totally quit but, i have taken extended breaks. It's amazing how much more productive you can be.

Facebook and the like, are nothing more than a commercial highlight for the majority of people that post there. It is the equivalent to the "dick measuring" contest that happens here on this forum almost daily.
The only difference between here and there is that on occasion, someone will actually post real issues that are taking place in their day-to-day lives, albeit under an alias. With Facebook, it's extremely rare that this takes place, except for those that have less standards and post any and everything and all thoughts every two minutes.

Social media:
Never had an account of any kind. Never missed it. People ask me why and I tell them that I don't really care about the trivial aspects of their lives and I know that no one cares about mine. I don't care how many kids you have, what they are doing, what trophy they won, etc. I have never felt the urge to share any of my kids' accomplishments with others either. At my 25th high school reunion, everyone kept calling me "the ghost" because i have no online presence. (at least one they know about)
Tech:
Sorry. This is essential to function in society.

I honestly don't understand the need to "quit" social media. I mean are some of you folks unable to step away from it? I'll check my accounts a couple times a day maybe, but are people actually sitting on there refreshing their feeds all day or something?
I have facebook, but I only use it to keep in touch with friends and family. It's also useful to keep in touch with the various people I've been stationed with in the military, since we're spread all across the globe.
Twitter is used to keep up with current cybersecurity news and events, since the community is usually aware of a new threat hours or days before the media. I don't think I've sent a single tweet though.

I never joined Facebook and this is the only social media site I participate in. The older I get, the more I don't want anyone to know any of my business. I carry a flip phone. Other than people ragging me about it, I'm glad I am not addicted to my phone like most people. I want a phone to be a phone. Nothing more, nothing less. I have a lot less drama in my life because of this.

I tried to quit but I actually get a lot of valuable information from Facebook. I follow a lot of musicians and bands that I like, along with several concert venues. It's a good way to find out about concert announcements. I also follow a lot of food/recipe pages because I enjoy cooking.
I've just about blocked and unfollowed anything that I would find controversial or annoying.

There's a dozen small reasons I quit, but the big one was that I was fed up with how ignorant and braggadocious all my "friends" had become. The amount of loathing I had for some of these people was a little surprising to me. The first thing I did was to start unfriending the prime offenders en masse, but pretty soon I realized that once I was done, I wouldn't have any "friends" left. So I just shut it down.
I do understand the need for some people to share every tiny detail, thought, and concern about their personal life. For most people it's basically because they're insecure and need to have their life validated. After 2 years I'm still embarrassed for some of these people.

No I just don’t post my life story for the world to see. Sorry you need validation from strangers to feel good about your life.

Agree. Hating social media is the cool things to do these days, and I find that it says more about the person quitting than it does about social media.
Quitting Facebook is understandable since it has become nothing but idiots bickering, and not being into social media because you're not interested is also understandable. But I don't understand people quitting due to some detriment in their life. Were they addicted to it? How? Refreshing their feed every few minutes? That doesn't even sound feasible.
I also don't get those that get all butthurt that people's lives seem too happy on social media. I feel like if other people's family photos or nice vacations make you unhappy with your life, you're probably battling your own insecurities that you should look into. There's nothing wrong with people sharing "perfect" aspects of their life. What would you expect? The alternative? Sharing why they're depressed?

Same, with Instagram for me. It is photo-based, so you never see bickering or too much of people's political opinions.
Instagram is where I find food/drink specials, learn about new restaurants or businesses opening, concert announcements, etc. Several times I've gotten tickets to something that sold out quickly due to Instagram. It is also great to see what's open on certain holidays and whatnot. Businesses like to post there.

The only social media I enjoy is Snapchat, and that's mostly because I send gross stuff to my friends

I have Facebook but use it so rarely that I’ve considered quitting multiple times.
I was Facebook friends with a joint husband/wife account. The woman was a substitute teacher at my elementary school. Everytime I would check my newsfeed, their account would have posted about 30 straight political or racist memes. So I unfriended them. After I did that, I would see posts from friends who I actually cared about, that I never got to see because I would get infuriated looking through memes that those idiots posted.
So it’s gotten a little better after unfriending them

I did the same thing. Facebook is useless. I only use Twitter during baseball season. I don’t tweet but it is the fastest way to find out about start times for LSU Baseball or Softball during rain delays

You gotta be fricking retarded otherwise.
