My peeper doc told me that lasik can't improve my astigmatism any more than what my glasses prescription already can, so I don't see much use in it. I know it's fairly low risk, but there still is some, and I have no problems wearing glasses. I just want to drive at night without having a panic attack.

Nine years ago and only complaint is I can see perfectly how fat I’ve gotten.

Many misunderstand the relation between Lasik and reading vision. Even if Lasik corrects your distance vision, you will eventually need readers due to age and lack of flexibility in the lens. It gets everyone eventually.
Lasik can actually speed up the need for readers for some. If you are nearsighted and get Lasik to correct your distance vision, you will likely need readers sooner than you would have without Lasik. LINK
I had to sign a release on that topic when I had Lasik.
Had terrible vision, and Lasik cleared it up (after an “enhancement” a few months later). Soon needed readers, as predicted. Sometimes use a single contact (mono vision) in non-dominant eye for reading, and that works well for the office, but I don’t like it at night, especially when driving..
After several years, vision in my dominant eye started to weaken and need a little correction, but nothing near what it needed pre-Lasik. I can get through life with drugstore readers, but I usually wear contacts these days (reader in one eye; minor correction in other). Well worth it when pre-Lasik couldn’t see jackshit without glasses.
Most of the folks I know who had Lasik around the time I did several years ago now need some correction in addition to readers, so don’t count on it lasting forever.

One of my coworkers did it 20 years ago. Her distance vision is still good but she wears reading glasses for small print

I think we all get to the point of at least needing readers. I had 20/20 vision most of my life until about 44-45.

Anyone ever do lasik?
Yes

What age did you do it
31

3 years

Any deterioration?
Not that I have noticed.

How was the surgery process?
They gave me a shite load of valium and told me to stare straight ahead. It took about 45 minutes and I was zoned out the whole time. The worst part was the first 2-3 days due to the dry eyes. I had to wear safety glasses the first 2 weeks to keep from scratching my eyes and wear sunglasses during the day and safety glasses at night when driving because the AC vents dried out my eyes for the first 6 months.

Do you regret it?
My only regret is not doing it sooner.

I did it at 28 years old to correct an astigmatism. It was well worth the $2,500 spent in 2004. It eliminated the need for glasses and contacts for 20 + years. I am now 48 and just started wearing glasses again. The surgery corrects defects in the cornea improving vision, but it cannot stop eyes from aging. Even with God given perfect vision, your vision will still diminish as you age. The younger you are, the longer you will enjoy the benefits of the procedure.

I had LASIK done is 2002 at 46. Best decision of my life. 67 now and still 20/20, but have had to wear readers for 10 years. A Godsend.

I had mine 24 years ago. My vision decreased by about 10%. I use glasses to drive.

They offered insurance for unlimited adjustments at $400 but wasn’t sure if I wanted to spend that on a redundant item
I went back to get an adjustment and they told me I didnt qualify bc I had a little bit of cataract

I had LASIK at Williamson Eye Center literally the day after I turned 21(earliest I could then I believe).
I had sh*t vision with terrible astigmatism, almost night blind from the starburst effect off the street-lights, etc.
I’m now 40, and I STILL have 20/20 in both eyes AND I don’t require readers.

I did LASIK in 2006 and so far so good. My vision was terrible before. Dr Charles Williamson in BR did mine.

When Medicare kicks in, you can get that taken care of and get your LASIK freshened up at the same time

Thats exactly what my Eye dr told me......she said I was too young for my insurance to cover it....that I had to wait until it got worse or I got older

Yep -
Charles Williamson fixed me up about 15 years ago - went from blind to 20/15 vision. Still good.
Would do again.

Did it at ~26. Coming up on 10 years. Best money I've ever spent.
Process was so simple. Recovery wasn't bad, sleep 3/4 days and try to keep eyes closed. 2 hours after the procedure, I remember looking at a clock and realizing I could actually read it!
I haven't had any significant changes to my eyes since. My left eye is maybe -.25 now, but not enough of an issue to need glasses or anything of the sort.
If they change at all in the future, I'll absolutely look to do it again.
As always, be sure to go to a good/reputable eye doctor.

I started using readers when I was 55+. Then I started wearing glasses and no longer needed readers, or just the 1.0's.
When I turned 66, I couldn't see at a distance. Kept getting stronger and stronger glasses. It got to where I avoided driving because I couldn't read the signs on the Interstate. If I knew where I was going, I was ok, but driving at night or trying to determine what lane I needed to be in to merge/exit became scary.
2 cataract surgeries later, I can see the leaves on trees, can read Interstate signs and menus on the wall in fast food restaurants.
Downside is that I had to bring back the readers, 2.50+. Not a problem.
Asked the doctor after the first surgery (took an hour with the eye drop prep taking most of the time) about making the next a "near vision" lens and he said that sometimes one eye will correct. One did.
My only complaint. It screwed up my golf game for a while and I have some depth perception problems.
