A lot of people learned that lesson in 2016. At only roughly $50 or even less a month there’s no reason to not have flood insurance.

The water didn’t even come close to me last nights. I’m good without it.

As someone who was in HS during Katrina, I never second guessed it. My wife fought me on it and I eventually told her I'd pay the whole policy...we're not going without.

Recently in my neighborhood (not a flood zone) a storm knocked over a trash can, garbage bags covered the storm drain and someones house ended up with 2 feet of water....I felt validated

It truly depends on your property. I'm on a high ridge that runs through this area. In 2016 several of the roads within a couple miles of my house were well under water. I had the same puddles in my yard that I get with every decent storm. If it floods here, Lafayette would be a lake.

Even with flood insurance it’s a tiresome and cumbersome process
I can’t imagine trying to recover without it
Katrina changed my mind and I don’t live in New Orleans
I’ve had it ever since

I’ve found here that places that didn’t flood 10-15 years ago are starting to now because of the new development and lack of legitimate drainage in heavier rains. We ended up picking some up as a result.

I didnt flood in 2016, why would I get it now?

When the water was coming up in '16, plenty of people who thought they would be fine because their house didn't flood in '83 ended up with water. With continued development and very little in the way of major drainage improvements, I worry these types of events will only increase in frequency and severity.

We don’t have flood insurance and I’ve always viewed it as a waste of money if you’re not in a flood zone but I’m wondering if the extra $700 isn’t worth it for peace of mind?

This is a story all about how my insurance got turned upside down. So I’ll just take a moment while you sit right there to tell you all about my thirty day flood insurance waiting period that ends three days from now.

$570ish if not in a flood zone.

Totally worth it.

I think most people did this in 2016. I can't imagine what would have changed between then and now that would have made someone change their minds.

Just pulled my policy:

Coverage starts 5/21/21.

State Farm gave me the run around and delayed getting the policy started. That’s why I’m in this mess. Just have to make it to Friday.

I kinda feel the same way, and we’re on high land here. Didn’t have much in the way of flooding on my street last night at all, but there were several streets around mine that were flooded (Kaliste Saloom, Camelia Blvd, etc…). But, I still have it.

$400/yr and it’ll pay out a few hundred thousand in building and contents coverage. I’d have to pay for it for over 1000 years before I lost out on that deal.

I’ll pay my flood insurance bill. Thanks.

I live in the south west portion of Acadia parish, flood zone. I had to build my house pad up approx. 6' in order to get the loan which is fine. Did that. Then I have to pay 1800$ a year for flood insurance. I will Never flood. If I flood, Jesus is back or Louisana will be in the gulf. But time and time again I see these new subdivisions pop up with no elevation required which makes 0 sense to me.

Still going to keep it even though if I need it the whole city is under.

This is smart. People are silly who say “I DON’T need it. If my house floods that means the whole city will be under water.”

Ok, and when that happens, you will still be SOL if you don’t have Flood Insurance.

For Katrina it was not required, I had it anyways. Had 10 feet of water.

After that... I've always had it. Even in Katy, where everyone told me there was 0.00000 percent chance I would ever use it. Even when two different insurance agents tried to talk me out of it as it was a waste of money.

Then a LOT of friends in South Katy I know flooded bad when Barker backed up after Harvey. And just about none of them had flood insurance.

X policy is so cheap, it's easy peace of mind for me.
