I sent my boss a pic of me in the ER the other morning at 4am.
Coughing up blood...enough to not ignore.
His response, "will you be late today?"
Keep in mind, we're buddies and I can do 95% of a weeks work in 30 minutes.
I have been coughing on everything that fricker owns for the last week.
Best part, it's working

Why do people like this insist on coming in and risk getting the rest of us sick?
I use my sick days to fish, not to actually be sick

The common cold is nearly unavoidable. If I'm feeling sick, I'll do my best not to snort/cough in front of people, but that's about it. If I have a fever, I won't come in to work. If I felt well enough to work, I would ask to work from home that day.
We had a guy do this a couple weeks ago after coming down with the flu. He's not Asian. I live in MS, so this was quite bizarre. This guy's from the Midwest so perhaps that thing is more common over there

i'm not having my whole team get sick because one person is too stingy with their paid sick days

I’m on day 2. Yesterday was definitely my weakest.

The problem is people abuse it. Call in because their throat was a little sore in the morning and act like they have a flu.

I feel like most people who "have the flu" don't actually have the flu. I've never had the flu but from what I gather, if I did, I'd need to miss more than a day of work.

This. My last job, if you came into work sick, you got a write up. My current job, if you're sick you have to use your PTO. Although all of my work can be done remotely, it is discouraged to miss for any reason. We even have to take PTO if the roads are unsafe to come into work.

I've had the opposite irritation. The people that work for me have clients that schedule and when they don't come in everyone else has to pick up A LOT of slack. I've had a woman text me a picture of a thermometer that read 99.1 and said she would not be coming in to work.
She also had to leave for a variety of reasons including but not limited to:
headache
backache
migraine
my kid has a cough
my daughter thinks someone is stalking her
One time she had a headache and I offered her some Aleve...said only advil would work and that she needed to leave... there is a reason she don't work here anymore

Yeah. I guess they hate home so much that they come to work, cooties and all.
If I sneeze three times in a row, I'm logging in remotely and working from bed.

I don’t really give a shite if they do. I don’t make out with them or anything so who cares.

Common cold? I'm coming to work. If it bothers you, use hand sanitizer. If you catch it, nbd. You are just as likely to catch it around town, and you'll be just fine.
Flu or diarrheal illness? If you come to work, you are an a-hole.

Hey OP -
How do you think physicians and nurses work everyday in the face of sick people and don't feel the need to call in sick themselves all the time?
You build up an immunity and you persevere.
I have not used a sick day in over 20 years.
Man up, take some dayquil and go to work.

I don’t ever miss work.
If I’m alive, you can bet I’m there.
If “sick”, I’ll avoid contact with everyone but I’ll be there.
I can’t help it if you didn’t take your vitamin c, zinc, multivitamins and go to a decent chiropractor.

I save my sick days to hunt or fish.
Posted on 3/12/19 at 4:48 pm to Parmen
I work when I’m sick and don’t care if it makes other people sick. If I can deal with it, so can they. There’s shite to do.
