You would be impressed by old Phoenix back in the day. Directions were a snap. The entire city was built with the streets either being perpendicular or parallel to each other.

Is this a troll? Dothan sucks arse. It might be the worst city in Alabama.
It’s a concrete/red light jungle in the middle of cow shite farms. I hate having to travel 30 minutes through that shite hole on the way to the beach.

Didn't the girl who won top chef a couple years ago open a restaurant there?

Seems like an okay town. Would be more competitive if they extended 65 from Montgomery to Florida.

Dothan is just like a lot of cities.
They built a bypass because traffic through the business district was too congested.
Then they zoned property along the bypass as commercial and gave permits for business development.
Getting around in Dothan sucks.

I was just about to mention this. I grew up and was very involved in Dothan much of my life. Loved the place and the people. My family is still there and I moved away to Knoxville seven years ago and after living here now, I wouldn't go back after experiencing a city offering as much as Knoxville does.
Dothan is a great place to raise a family. My grandfather had a farm and fishing pond in the Rehobeth area right outside of town. It now belongs to my father and uncle and we've kept quarter horses on it for about 20 years.
They have actually worked to develop the historic downtown area. It now has decent little coffee shops, local goods stores, a few clubs, and local restaurants, including the one opened by the girl who won Top Chef. They have also improved rec activities, building new biking and mountain biking trails across the city and some disc golf.
They recently combined to two cross-town rival high schools and turned the original Dothan High (my high school) into a 9th grade prep academy. I would agree the school quality is going down. It was great back in my days.
They've discussed a bypass for years but it has always gotten a ton of push back.
It's not a city that will blow your socks off, but it's not a bad place to live.

Supposedly has a lower real estate tax and it is 62 miles from Panama City.

I grew up a few miles from it.
The circle was a good idea but the allowed businesses to build directly on it so it really slows down traffic fiercely. During spring break traffic, it is absolutely miserable.
And,no, it doesn’t have a boll weevil monument. The boll weevil is in enterprise, about 30 miles away.

The gnats will flock to the sauce in your barbecue sandwich in the summer time.

There is already a 4-lane running from Montgomery all the way to the beach that takes you to Dothan. Tons of commercial trucking industry in that part of the state. Yeah it isn't the interstate but it is fine for what it is.

Population. Like I said, a lot of people I know are moving back. I'd move back if I could work remotely. Freedom to live where you want will let people live in rural areas that weren't accessible to "professionals" before.
That being said, they only grew by a few thousand between the last 2 censuses. Where I live now in metro ATL, we can see that growth with a single company coming to town...

My uncle lived there and had a body shop. Not the nicest guy.
I remember visiting my cuz there once as a teenager. All he could talk about was is brandname jeans, shirts and sunglasses. He became an addict.
I did stay there on our way Panama City a couple of years ago. They gotta a big-arse country bar there...this old guy who Uberred us back to the hotel had a bad-arse 600 horsepower CTS w a stick. He lit em up for us. He was in the Auburn fire dept the night the barn burned...no shite.

I have family there so we go a few times a year. It’s a lot of military with Ft Rucker nearby and seems like a lot of medical people. I read the other day it’s top 3 in people relocating to for the state behind Huntsville and Birmingham. Just not sure why they are going.

People are getting old... lots of healthcare.
Also, tons of rural hospitals in AL and GA have shut down. Dothan is nearest significant hospital (Eufaula doesn't count) to our farm, and that's a 45 minute drive.
