Seen border patrol at least a dozen times, never had that happen to me. Not once.

A few years ago, I went through that ICE checkpoint that is on I-10 in Arizona and they had an 18 wheeler in the inspection bay with the trailer doors open and what looked like most of the cargo (big boxes) on the pavement and a couple of dogs sniffing through the stuff. They had a guy off to the side in cuffs who I assume was the driver.

But I have been through that checkpoint numerous times and never been searched, even pulling a trailer.

I used to work for a company based in Buffalo, and had to go up there every two weeks. After work I would go to Canada to gamble. One evening crossing back into the US I was I was randomly chosen for a search.

I wonder if the agent saw my crossing pattern on the screen (about every two weeks, always a weeknight) and "randomly" chose me. Total waste of time.

Same thing happened to me coming back from Victoria on the pedestrian ferry. It was a day trip and I had no luggage but they sure thought I was up to something.

You should learn the difference between Border Patrol and Customs/OFO.

About 50 SCOTUS decisions, federal law, and 200+ years of precedent. The United States has a vested interest in knowing who/what is entering or leaving its border.

I have two stories from my time in the automotive industry.

Years back, I was senior Quality Engineer for Packard Electric Division of GM. One of our wire harness plants was in Nuevo Laredo and I went there at least once a month. Stayed in Laredo and crossed every day and back across that night. Never hassled going from US to Mexico. Always was asked about drugs coming back. I had a GM ID badge on my shirt and was never more then asked - "Do you? No? OK, pass through."

We always joked that going into Mexico, the Mexican Border guy would ask, "Do you have any drugs? No? Would you like to buy some?"

A few years later, I was Corporate Quality Director for G&O Division of Allen Group. We made Heat Transfer systems for Class 8 Trucks and supplied radiators to the Kenworth Plant in Chathum, Ontario.
Each month I attended their Quaity Task Force Meeting. I usually took a box of 25 G&O Baseball Caps with me for the guys in the radiator build out area and the assembly line. I would fly into Detroit and cross the Kings River Bridge into Ontario, spend two days and drive back.

One trip I was going through the crossing and when questioned why I was entering Canada I told the Canadian agent I was going on business to the Kenworth plant in Chathum. The Canadian agent then asked, Do you have any work tools with you? I said, "No just a box of baseball caps,would you like one?"

He looked at me like I had fired a shot at him. He pointed to a check zone and said, "Sir, pull over there and park. Do not leave your vehicle. Someone will be with you in a while."

I thought, "Oh shite." and followed his directions. After forever, a guy came out and said, "Sir, do you know what you did?" I said, "Yes I offered him a baseball cap." He said, "No you attempted to bribe a Canadian Customs Agent, in violation of Canadian law."

I just sat there in silence, not knowing what to say. After staring at his clipboard forever, he said, "You need to understand that everything you say in a customs inspection station is taped. Was it your intention to offer a bribe to our Agent?" I quickly said, "No sir." He gave me a long stern look and said, "You may, go. Please don't ever do that again."

I had six or eight beers that night with supper in celebration of managing to stay out of a Canadian Prison.
