buy them off the shelf at the office depot, but I do buy the upper end of what they offer. they write better than pretty much anything else I have ever used.
This is what I do. I have bought lots of expensive pens, (not Mont Blanc, more mid-tier expensive), but only as gifts and not for personal use. The same with super expensive whiskeys.

I have lost or dropped/broken 3-4 Meisterstucks in my day.
Now I just buy the Zebra pens.

I use the best pens that money can buy.
At the moment, that is the Pilot V5 rt.
I haven't found a pen I like better.

I buy ball point pens from the dollar tree and they are almost as good as the major brands that cost five bucks more...three for a buck. They run out of ink a little sooner but they write as smooth. I learned to be cheap along time ago, even if I can afford the better shite now, no reason to waste the money.

Parker Jotter rollerball is the best pen around. It’s ~$15 at your nearest Office Depot.
You mind linking to the pen you’re talking about?

I have one very nice pen that was a gift from a friend who was a pen collector. His claim to fame was an early 1900's Parker snake pen. Supposedly the most sought after pen on the market.
But I'm practical and use mechanical pencils and rollerballs daily.

I only use Fisher space pens.

I buy the blue bold pens from Office Depot. Sometimes I’m
Required to sign original documents and the blue pen is necessary. When I write thank you notes the blue ink looks better. I would probably loose a expensive pen. I do like to use a decent pen.

Straight off the shelf at the store.

At one time I was into pens.
Now, my pen of choice for taking notes is this $100 model -
I use it with my iPad and primarily with an app called Notability.
It let's you keep and save all your notes and is searchable for future reference - even with sloppy handwriting like mine.

I like premium pens. It’s a weird thing for me. I switch between ballpoint and rollerball a lot so I just ordered a titanium edc pen from bigidesign. Yes it’s expensive but it will use damn near any refill you can put in it.
I have a space pen that stays in my hunting bag and one that stays in my tackle box. When I was in construction I used one daily. Inks never failed me.
I find that rollerball ink is a dime a dozen. For me it’s more about the comfort of writing with the pen. Ballpoint ink OTOH is a completely different story. Cross and Jetstream ink are my two favorites. There’s nothing more cumbersome and sloppy than trying to write with a cheap Bic pen.
Cross used to be my go to but the quality has suffered so much to where I’ve had several mechanisms break or wear out on me. My dad has a pen/pencil set from the 80s which feels almost nothing like a modern cross pen. Weight and quality is absurdly better on the 30 year old set.
Coolest pen I have is made from wood from the USS Constitution.

I turn nice wood blanks on a lathe and build nice pens. Never bought one someone else made though.
I do the same. I've sold a couple, but mostly I just give them away. It's more of a hobby than a side hustle.

I bought a couple of these pens recently to keep in my backpack and my desk. I'm bad about clipping them in my shirt crossways (I wear Polo style shirts to work everyday) and the ones that click would always leave ink on my shirt if I leaned over and accidentally made it click and it stayed out. This twist style works better for me and the ink they use (energel) is nice too.

I was given a Montblanc Meisterstuck fountain pen by my uncle for college graduation and it has been with me ever since. I probably wrote more with it taking notes in law school than the following 27 years combined but I signed probably 99% of my legal documents with it using Royal Blue bulk ink. I always enjoy the ritual of filling the pen.
I have often looked at other quality fountain pens but given my poor penmanship it never struck me as an interest that made sense for me, plus I am so attached to the one I have I can't really see using any other pen.

Life span of a pen in my hands is generally less than one work day. I buy cheap Bic Velocity pens in bulk....

This is weird. I stumbled onto the fountain pen subreddit yesterday and now this thread....
Fountain pens as an obsession is very Patrick Bateman-esque to me. Like the business card obsession
