I work in Mid-stream. Much, much better than refining. Company pays better, has much better benefits and employees are much happier. It is also a much cleaner and safer workplace than refining.

Natural gas and propane will be in demand for the forseeable future. Terminals up north cannot supply enough during winter months.

Edited to say this: My company was the first to start shipping product to Europe after the Russia/Ukraine conflict started. Most are now shipping. I do not see demand slowing.

Interesting. I've always heard that midstream pays the lowest.

I worked refining for years. I get paid much more now and relocation was 100% plus. They even paid a portion of my new home purchase here in Iowa City. I got 900 units of stock as part of my annual bonus(after only working 3 months). At $34/unit, that ain't bad and then you include cash bonus as well. My insurance here is much cheaper than it was at Tesoro and espcially Marathon.

I hope it takes off and is sustainable.

De-bottleneck the Permian and get Hayneville really going again. Would maybe even help areas like Iberville Parish in South LA see a bit of revival for natural gas production.

As someone who lives in Belle Chasse for 15+ years, I sure hope not. This traffic is fricking annoying.

Venture global is pissing off all the majors because they have some pretty big contracts with prices which are favorable to their customers, but if you can get in there, I would suggest it. I have worked in LNG for 20 years and it is only going to get bigger.

I’d echo this.

I spent 3 years working in Australia during their LNG boom in the mid 2010s. They pay you a shite ton of money and throw around crazy titles like they’re candy. I know tons of guys who squirreled away half a mil by the time they left and got great new gigs based on title and experience.

If your role is construction-related, then yes your experience at Venture may seem like a bubble as it’s strict contract work, but the LNG industry itself is far from a bubble. It will only continue to expand as it becomes the only way to truly provide a lot of baseline power as folks try to take coal and nuclear offline. I’d be incredibly bullish on the industry overall’s future.

Also, just a forewarning, if you do take the job, these types of mega, multi-billion dollar construction projects are absolute shitshows. They need so many folks (like you) to come onboard. They pay them a fortune, but then no one has any context or history with the project. Everyone is just meeting everyone (though the guys who do this regularly as a career start to see a lot of the same folks as they go from job to job around the world). Everyone knows this is a 2-3 year assignment vs a place you can have a lengthy career at so I found that it is an absolute shitshow. You gotta have a good attitude about it, but you spend one week on one of these megajobs, and you realize why everything costs 3x what they budgeted and takes years longer than planned.

That's an anomalous experience IMO.

Any insight would be helpful.

They do pay better but expect more. The extra $100k or so you were offered, $40k+ is per diem related due to the extra commute and having to commute down there 5 days (sometimes 6) a week. The remaining $’s is going to be for overtime. When I was there, they expected 50-60+ hours working on the project side. Makes for a long day to commute 2.5 or more hours a day plus working 10+ hours a day. Money is good, just something to keep in mind

And to the person that mentioned mega projects being a shite show - this couldn’t be any more accurate. Worked 4 of them during my career and all have been shite shows. Good experience but they can wear on you.

I think your wording was off here. They are most def shite shows. From the hour waits to get out of parking lots, the long waits to get on hot busses, the constant up and downs of the crew sizes and 13 people in line to use the microwave in the lunch tent.
It’s def not a good time from what I can tell.

America's gas reserves are the biggest in the world. We need to replace Russian gas to Europe with ours.
