Jesus, I forgot about that movie. I'm on a quest now - going to have to find it. My older half brother raced out of Houston and did some freestyle stuff. Had a little sponsorship from Hutch. I raced Lafayette area, made it up to BR once. Started off on one of his older Hutches but had a Mongoose and the greatest, Redline GT. All 3 I treated like babies.

Anyone gonna tell me where was a BMX track in BR area in the Early 80s(82ish)? I recall going watch races once. But no idea where it was.

Are you talking about the BREC track?

I don't know when it started, but i raced there in the mid-90s.
It was on Kenilworth and Perkins.

Nah. That was new in 90s. In 82 that was an open area, we practiced football in that very space. Just Olympia stadium and baseball fields back then. The velodrome and then BMX track came later.

Conversations like this were had many times in the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans...

"Ricky's cousin Joe's best friend Keith's teammate's friend's half brother got a Cook Bros. for his graduation."

"Where's he live?"

"California"

This is how mine looks now present day. All retro besides the blue and the bars. Pedals are fused to the cranks!

I lived about 1/4 mile from a BMX track in Powder Springs, Ga. It was at a Wild Horse Creek Park if any of y'all ever raced there. They had some big events there. I never officially raced but rode the track every summer day for several years. We lived at that damn park. BMX track to the pond to fish then over to play tennis and then wiffle ball on the T ball field. Those were the days.

Pretty sure I've had that exact conversation

I was more of a freestyler than a BMXer. I think my dad sold my Haro master when I went to college for like 50 bucks. Wish I still had it now. 4130 chrom-moly frame with the oddessy rotor and dia compe nippon brakes.

Was never into racing i was into Freestyle. Lucky that being from KC I got to ride with Dennis McCoy and Rick Thorne. Every once in a while big time riders like Todd Lyons and even Mat Hoffman would come to stay with DMC and so got to meet them and ride with them too. My first bike was a Diamond Back Strike Zone and second was a Mongoose Decade. Some of best times in my life were back then, wish life was still that fun and care free lol.

I still have dreams about my bike that I put together. I still remember every part. Stolen. Wish I still had it today. Didn't race competitively, but me and my friends built our own tracks on empty lots and shite. Those were the days. Rad.

Holy shite. This is it. Stock version. Obviously I had a Uni seat and grips. Z rims. Suntour cranks. Pro neck. Forks, the whole 9. Those pedals that would kill your shins, what were those? (KKTs) Man, that's a cool site. I had a Torker and a Redline later but this was my Bike. Always liked Hutches. GTs were popular. JMCs. Kuwaharas were exotic.

In 78 or 79 we used to race at a track in Hattiesburg. My bike was a chrome Mongoose with blue tires and pads.
I was usually mid pack, but at the MS state championships I got 2nd place. Our race was after a rain, I screwed up the hole shot, but passed almost everyone when I took the top of the berm around the pack who got bogged down in the mud. Good times.

You had the track behind Capitol schwinn cycles on Florida near airline which is now Cullen's baby land. Saturday trophy races were there.

You also had Sunday ribbon races at Shipley's. I don't remember what part of town Shipley's was, but I do remember it was in the woods.

Bingo! I was gonna say for some reason I feel like I remember it being in woods or we drove through some woods to get there. Haha how funny is that because I thought maybe I imagined that part. I was about 7 so it's fuzzy for me.

Sadly the only media I have seen for purchase is VHS. Definitely an underrated, forgotten 80's staple.

Yes. I want to say Shipley's was somewhere near Florida and Sherwood. It was at a residence in the woods.
