Actually, looking at the map, looks like it was the end of Winterset Dr.
Thanks man. Was gonna text your wife and ask her b/c I saw she knew about it. It's been bugging me since this thread mentioned a track in BR.
I had no idea I had driven past that hood a few times in recent years.
That is exactly how my memory looks in my head. I would have been playing just behind the tree line/in the woods and watching races at a 7-8 yr old.
This reminds me of when I first got to playing with Google maps a few years ago and found the spot my dad would pull up to so we could sneak in the Drive In movies off Airline near Sherwood.

I grew up in central FL and raced at a track in Daytona. I lived in the woods and my dad got so tired of me and my buddies digging up the empty lot next door, for my birthday he had 100 sq yrds (I think it was) of clay delivered in a dump truck. Was a great day.
One of my buddies I rode with went on to compete and place in the old King of Dirt competitions. He know owns his own bike shop in FL.

I wish I had pictures. My bike looked exactly like that except it had blue alloy handlebars.
Nice bike.
Actually, I pulled that one off the interwebs. Mine looked just like it, except I had blue DX pedals. That bike rocked. I've seen a hand full of New Old Stock ones float around Ebay for about $1,200. Well restored old ones are selling for around $800...or they were the last time I looked.

I had a Redline proclass. Always wanted the Race Inc. black with gold alloy parts.
Went to leesville a few times but just to watch. Those were good days. Capital Schwinn and Fun Fair across the street.

quote:Yea, I remember it being close to that neighborhood by St Alphonsus, can't find anything at all on old aerial photos.
Shipley's in the back part of a neighborhood off Frenchtown Rd. by Greenwell Springs Rd. , at the very end of Old Greenwell Springs Rd.

Every once in a while big time riders like Todd Lyons and even Mat Hoffman would come to stay with DMC and so got to meet them and ride with them too.
Insane. Mat Hoffman was always one of me heros. Check out his autobiography.

I wish I still had this bike!

Yea all of us that rode in the KC area were really lucky to see meet Hoffman, etc...but even riding with DMC all the time people don't realize how great a rider he was/is. He wasn't just great at flatland and ramps he was maybe his best riding downtown doing street stuff. BTW BmxPlus magazine is doing a special issue on DMC for their September issue covering the 30 years he's been competing. They have a picture in there of one of the times Hoffman came up and was in a little contest at DMC's house from 1989. I'm one of the guys sitting next to the ramp in awe.lol

That's the same bike I had in the post above..except my Mongoose Decade was dark blue with Peregrine Super Pro 48's instead of mag wheels.

I've still got the PK Ripper that I rode back in the day.
I'll have to dig up pictures somewhere.
I don't have the Redline or any of the other bikes anymore, though.

Proud owner and then they put one in the movie ET and I got hazed but I was a bike racing fricker in the 80's. They had a cool track in Monroe by the airport. Used to do some crazy shite on a bike and then I discovered dirt bikes and the ET bike sat in the corner.
