-No Wal Marks in LP. Closest one is in Oak Grove.

-Yes, there is a community of Mennonites in East Carroll. Good hard working folks (shocker)

-The Jongs are the Chinese family that live there/ run the grocery store. Played ball against some of the boys back in the day. Good athletes. They were fast as shite.

-Baby Tac is a geographical moron.

Not sure what highways and loops are in place now, but going to Zachary, a man used to take Rustin - Tallulah - Transylvania - lake Providence - Sicily Island speed trap - Vidalia - Natchez - on down 61 to get where you’re going. Used to be a pretty drive.

You need to buy and study a Louisiana map. You're very lost.

What about Napoli’s store in Melville?

probably closed 40 yrs ago... opened in 1910 and 4 generations of family members ran the store until closing. Very cool bldg just sits there dilapidating.

Cannatellas was open for 99 years until it closed in 2022. C's was the last remaining mom & pop grocery store in Melville that also sold hardware and bldg supplies. Meville has a pop. of 750 and 50% is below the poverty line. Roughly 36% of those 16+ years and older are employed. The St. Landry Parish food bank started giving away free food to those in need, and the regular grocery shoppers never went back to Cannatellas. Fk'd up situation in rural small town Louisiana.

Only gas station that closed 10+ yrs ago. Now if residents need gas or groceries, they have to drive 10 miles to Krotz Springs. The bldg has been For Sale for years, but any new owners would likely have to remove the tanks which would cost more $$.

Town is always having a boil advisory ... their water tank is older than Methuselah.
Can't imagine what the inside looks like

I don't think anybody currently living in LP has posted yet. Either no TDers live there (doubtful) or they dont want to out themselves

Moved there from Georgia for work after college. Spent several years there. Was a big culture shock but I really enjoyed my time there. Lot of good people. There's more middle class than you'd think, but a big economic divide. I still go back to visit from time to time.

What happened to Tallulah and LP? My friend has family land there, but says it’s crap area. She wishes she could sell one day and get over to Vicksburg.

Anthony "Greyhound" Jones was a hell of a basketball player from Lake Providence at ULM/NLU in the late 80s-early 90s.

My father in law was born and raised in Melville. Wife (no pics) still has family that live there. My father in laws dad used to run the ferry, and we still have his old lanterns he used on it. It’s a depressing little town for sure. Kinda sad in a way. We go back from time to time to put flowers on graves, and visit with family.

That poor town isn’t gonna last much longer. No work, and very poor.

You can here the dobros playing when riding thru there
I have been to LP quite a few times. I have never heard anyone playing a dobros. I do remember in the early 2000's hearing still fly playing from some donked out ex cop cars. That's on the side I've been to. Maybe that Briarfield side plays the dobros.

those delta towns along the river have pretty much dried up and are either dead or on life support. medicaid is the leading industry. believe it or not, towns like Ferriday, Waterproof, St. Joe, and northward used to be ok places to live. except for Vidalia and Winnsboro, virtual slums now.
