Used to drive through there from Ruston to Baton Rouge. Pretty lake, nice camp houses. Always figured it was a hidden gem. At least it was nicer than Transylvania.

Were you lost?

Why were you taking 2 hour detours on your way to BR?

Just looked at it on Google maps and if they hadn't put 65 so close to the west shoreline there would be a lot of land worth a lot more. Of course when they cut the road in farmers would have been pissed, at the time anyway.

I grew up with a bunch of Melville folks. There are some good people from there. Only knew one girl from LP. She was interesting.

A kid from Lake Providence was at the other end of the hall in my freshman dorm at LSU. Chinese dude whose parents fled after the communists took over and landed in Lake Providence, of all places. The family ran a grocery store. I never got to talk to him much but I bet he had some stories.
The first Chinese in the Mississippi Delta settled around Greenville, MS and were merchants. That was over 100 years ago.

I’ve met some of their descendants who are 100% Chinese DNA and have accents like Shelby Foote.

It was a trip to meet them originally.

Would this be the Sweet Peas near Oak Grove and Forrest La? If so I’ve been there a time or two. Up there you truely feel like the world ends at the Parrish lines. Very secluded, and very shut off from the rest of the world

The Dock on the lake on the north side of town is a good place to stop and eat.
