Anybody a member of Mensa here?

As OTers, we're clearly all qualified, in addition to our many other accomplishments. But has anyone actually joined? The sole criteria is IQ. I've known a couple of people who were in it, and their level of intelligence as determined by standardized testing didn't translate over to any kind of notable achievement.

Those people are below my level of intelligence.

If by IQ you mean solving word jumbles, then no I haven't cared to join MENSA.

How do you join? What do they do?

You have to submit proof of IQ (IIRC it has to be in the top 1%). This can be a standard IQ test, or extrapolated from other tests like ACT/SAT or military testing. They mainly have social events.

I was a member of the triple nine society a long time ago in the early 80s.

Qualified with my LSAT score. Never bothered to apply.
And my ACT score now that I look at what's accepted.

True story...
At my first MENSA meeting, a women who was both abnormally tall and (apparently) a good test taker, tried to recruit me into a tall persons group. She was pretty cute for an Amazonian woman. She was also married and a better basketball player than me. I didn't think it would work out for us.
I'm not the brightest bulb, but I soon realized that narrowing my already constricted social circle may not be in my best interest.

my parents made me join after I qualified with my ACT in highschool. they thought it would open up scholarship opportunities. It was pointless

I took the Standford Binet test, barely made the cutoff, but never actually looked into MENSA.

Yes. Never helped me much, other than allowing me to roll with the punches that life dishes out over the years. Made it easier to get back up and make the kinds of decisions that would affect the rest of my life. More options were open to me because school was so easy for any of them.
Not sure that it was due to IQ or guts, though.
I'm happy. Does that count?
