The local group generally gathers and talks about their international travels and highland road estates. Then they go home and try to push rope.

Spinoff from the Rant: Anybody a member of Mensa here? by LSURussian
I was a member for about 5 years until I realized all MENSA really wanted was my annual dues. I let the membership lapse.
This is why I didnt renew my Mensa membership
I didn't want to Pay dues for nothing. For me it was just about being able to say i was in it. I never went to any events.
Same with the Lettermans Association of the school i went to. Didn't renew because i live 2000 miles away. Nothing in it for me.

The list of notable Mensa members is a veritable Who's Who of people nobody gives one frick about, with the possible exception of

I'm not but Tom Herman is.
Do you think that they will kick him out . . . I mean PROMOTE him in Mensa if he takes the LSU job?

I'm a member of Super Secret MENSA.
The first rule of Super Secret MENSA is to not talk about Super Secret MENSA.
Oh, crap!

didn't translate over to any kind of notable achievement.
IQ and achievement are mutually exclusive. Achievement is mostly risk based or socially influenced.
Say there's 300 million people in the US
The top 1% IQ is the top 3 million
297 million people play the lottery, open restaurants with a 60% failure rate in the first 3 years, get involved in pyramid schemes, etc....even if 95% of those lose all their money are poor and on food stamps....that's still 15 Million BAWS running around in lifted trucks and a 4,000 sqft home for two, yelling "IQ ain't worth a shite!"
Unforunately, the top .1% is what people mean when they say "High IQ" which is closer to 300,000.
So you have 15 million bling-blinging, mouth breathing, "success" stories outnumbering 50 to 1 the 300,000 higher IQs who find most measures of "success" as vulgar.
They are okay with a modest home, not living check to check, a small group of close friends, and an easy life.
The high IQ is okay with $6k/month job, and puts $1,500 toward his mortgage and car, invests and saves close to $2k/month, and never has to worry about money.
The Fool can make $15k/month, and will put $12k/month toward his homes, cars, boats, tramp stamps, and fake tits...live check to check...and "needs to close" that next deal to make ends meet.
And the 95% of other fools will call the 5% of fools the successes.

What are the qualifications? I took a day long test from a neuro-psychiatrist once. I think I did ok. I didn't even realize I was going in for a test like that. I thought I was going to lay on a couch and talk about my childhood or something and then he started throwing puzzles and shite at me. Took like 8 or 9 hours. It was brutal.

:raiseshand:
Initially tested in while in elementary school - Test administered in person by a representative. Tested again about 20 years ago just after college (felt sure I wouldn't pass after burning out a massive # brain cells, but scraped by). Probably wouldn't qualify if I tried now.
My little sister breezed unti MENSA. Sur has a LEGIT 140+ IQ.
