I’m hoping to find a new plan that’s cheaper, but unless there are new plans on the Marketplace, I’m pretty sure I got the cheapest BC plan that had all or most of our doctors in network. I don’t really want to switch doctors, but it’s getting to the point where it’s something to look at.

Going to step out on a limb and guess you don’t work for a company that uses math often?

an emergency wouldn’t cripple us

I understand freak things can happen, and as a child we had that happen in our family so I know the risks. I also know people that pay for insurance that basically covers everything except freak things.

I’m not losing sleep over something I can’t control.

bet most of this increase is from GLP-1 drugs. Insanely expensive and almost everyone is on them.

All major carriers stop covering these last year.

I had BC/BS, my Tirz was $27.00 for three months in 2024 but $1,400.00 in 2025. I turned to the black market like most people due to cost.

UHC doesn’t cover them either

yes

We are pretty good financially bc I am not a spender - my husband buys a lot more than I do and that’s ok bc he earns it.

A $5,000 trip to the ER wouldn’t cripple us, but A $500,000+ car accident, heart attack, stroke or cancer diagnosis would.

Insurance was billed over $60,000 for an emergency appendectomy back in 2019. Even if the cash discount was 50%, a $30,000 bill would probably take us 5-6 years to pay off. I think when it was all said and done, I paid around $6,000-$7,000 out of pocket.

right but how much have you paid since obtaining insurance

Probably over $30K by now

My work doesn’t offer it - my husband’s work pays for his. He’s more likely to have an emergency- so he’s covered. As for me - well - once I stop posting, yall will know.

It’s not that we aren’t ‘prepared’ we are just prepared a different way than you are.

Just opened mine - it's absurd
From $1600 earlier this year, family of 4, to having a baby making it $1900 and now the same plan next year is $2200 a month!

Two years ago it was $1300

I absolutely refuse to use United and will pay more to do so, but this is insane.
I've done high deductible for the past 4 years to get HSA and unfortunately lost the gamble one year and ended up paying OOP maximum. But what is the point of having "cheap" insurance with high deductible when it's not even "cheap" anymore.
Thinking about upgrading to Cadillac type plan and not having to worry about OOP if anything happens.

private healthcare is a scam. way to steal our money and give to PE and foreigners.
BAN IT then make every citizen buy in reducing the rate. foreigners need to buy in at a higher rate if they want health care

Pretty much. Especially because anything over ~$90K makes us ‘rich’ and ineligible for subsidies.

That is the dirty little secret about insurance, you pay and pay into a system where someone else controls the purse strings. They tell you which doctor to see and which treatments are covered. If you put aside the same annual premium cost from an employee and employer contribution in an HSA for a family that is nearly 25-30k a year going to the health insurance company. Then most policies have deductibles and out of pocket maxes that vary from 10-20k a year.

That means you end up shelling out nearly 50k a year in medical costs. If you are not likely to have some major medical issues, that is a significant chunk of income that is getting lost in the health care hole in this country.

The one big thing I would propose is an elimination of the requirement of insurance for HSA’s. Let people save for medical care and start paying cash again. Plus if you have insurance, you can use the HSA for copays and even insurance if the price comes in range.

The only benefit Obamacare gave people was a discount on insurance based on income. If you make too much these discounts disappear and you are paying a good chunk of healthcare using after tax dollars.

This is simple not sustainable for many Americans. I don’t see how everything continues this way. Blowing up the system intentionally has worked to perfection- Medicaid for everyone ahead.
