Since insurance has been a hot topic around here lately, anybody else get their letter today?
2026: $1536
2027: $1818
Up 18%.
In 2027, Blue Cross will officially surpass my mortgage payment (including escrow) as my single highest monthly expense.

Everything is broken. This is what happens when socioeconomic systems and infrastructure are not regularly reevaluated and calibrated to changes in demographics and reality in general.
We just keep chugging along with our healthcare setup and it is not sustainable. It has never worked and never delivered the value it demands.

The most enraging thing about this, is that the only realistic solution for the average person is to just go work for the government because their insurance is better and cheaper.

Kick every able body adult off of Medicaid.
National ID card. If you’re illegal, no treatment. Go home.

Company covers 75% of mine, but it’s still $1010 a month for me and one child. I think it would around $1650 for the two of us if they didn’t cover part of mine.

Medicaid needs to be entirely eliminated, along with Medicare, and replaced with a single system.
Both are just enormous money pits that are specifically incentivized to ruin everything.
Private health insurance, at this point, is just a criminal operation in collusion with HCP’s to artificially inflate profits.

No deductible though.
This is probably your problem. Why not get a high deductible plan with an HSA?

No, most of the kids and I are self pay bc we don’t spend $1800 in a year on medical care
If we have to go to the hospital we are screwed.
My husband and my oldest have insurance through their work.

We are generally healthy, but I don’t think I could sleep at night knowing that a medical emergency would financially cripple us. Too many ‘healthy’ people end up with cancer or some other freak accident.
I’m also very thankful that while it SUCKS to have such an increase, it’s not going to put us in a bind every month in 2027.

High cost guess on worst
55 to 65 single or empty nest couples waiting for Social Security to kick in.
Expect 1K to 2K per person per month and deductible between 6K and 12K
It will have less features for about double the cost after this election and the "other shoe to drop" kicks in from that Big Beautiful Bill passed in Fall 2025.
Expect deep cuts and double costs for
Medicare
Medicaid
Private
Obama Care
Etc
Etc
Anytime you have to pass 2,000 to 3,000 page bill in Washington in the dead of night. Expect somebody is hiding something and the average citizen is about to get hosed.

GRT, does any of the 8 have private HSA's?
If not, start now and fund like IRA or any other tax exempt / deferred system the USA allows now.
Get the kids to lobby your Federal in Washington to expand this program where it was when started, and get your kids generation educated to have something for them when they hit middle age and older.
Your pal,
CG

Make sure to buy the short and long term disability if you’re able through your work. I wound up with cancer that treatment made me miss two months of work after surgery. Was the best thing I did buying into the disability plan.

I’m Self-Employed, so 8-12 months of expenses is a must for us. There were a few years when we didn’t have that, and it was not my favorite time in my life.

The irony is going to be that this will be one of the first industries to be decimated by AI.
