I often go to the liquor store on one side of town and get a sixer of ponies for the ride home on a Friday. I usually will knock 2 of them out by the time im home.

That's what they are there for and why they are already iced down. It's an unwritten rule that those are for the road. Otherwise I don't know anyone who buys their beer in 24 oz cans

I had a boss that would leave with a bottle a crown and would stop at the gas station to get a fountain coke... every day... he only called me to get him home once and I made it clear it was the first and last time I was doing this. He would leave an hour or two before me and many times he would still be at the gas station when I passed by.

I used to do this regularly then realized I couldn't live with myself on the outside chance something happened.
And the beer hit the spot just as well when I got home.
In fact I timed it out where I could call my wife and have her put it in the freezer so it had slush on it!

I worked some summers with my Dad and we would stop and grab a quart of Ole Milwaukee for the ride back. Paper bag bliss. I still have one of those on occasion.
