We moved to Baton Rouge in 1996 and live there for 18 years. It was so clean and pretty when we first moved there, but quickly changed. And, unless you are a football type, there really is nothing much to do there.

If you don't like where you live, move.

And I don't mean that in the normal OT way of saying "well good we don't want you here anyway so GTFO!"

I just genuinely mean find somewhere you'd rather live and start making it happen. Pick a few places you think you'd enjoy, and start applying to jobs. Move somewhere new, experience new stuff. If it turns out you don't like it, there's always a new place to go - and BR will always be there if you choose to go back.

It didn't really hit me till I graduated and started working. All of my friends moved away and the post grad/ undergrad life are polar opposite and I wish I had realized that earlier. Spent 9 months in BR and had to move.

I agree. Just drive down Jones Creek, Siegen, Essen, Sherwood Forest....all the aforementioned streets are overridden with potholes and zero curb appeal. The shopping centers need a facelift and the stretch of Sherwood Forest from I-12 to Florida Blvd is abysmal these days.

Wait until the Broome starts sweeping Baton Rouge clean with her initiatives. I look forward to her mass pedicab transit idea for Baton Rouge--that's going to work!

These areas have always been boring, lifeless, suburban hell. Now they're ghetto, boring, lifeless, suburban hell. I like my downtown/garden district/mid city bubble and much of the LSU area but outside of that there aren't many remotely desirable areas.

Simply untrue. There is this perception of BR having nothing to do that I really dislike.

The problem is marketing of events is generally poor so people don't really know about them. Since downtown's been making a comeback there's more to do than ever... you just have to keep an eye out and follow a lot of places on social media.

I grew up in Opelousas, so BR is pretty great to me But it has plenty of flaws, no doubt.

People who arent even in BR just force this misconception.

And those here that believe it most likely dont even try to find different things to do. If there are things, they just get shite on anyway.

"Nothing to do here" is to BR as "this city smells like piss" is to NO. Misconceptions rooted partially in reality.

yep it's because da blacks.....

Nothing to do with 'da poors' huh...

I just don't get it...
You are threads like this and before you click on them you can almost already write half of the replies... you know exactly what will be said and you can usually tell before hand the usual characters following the stereotype...

What's sad about it all is that a lot of the stattistics are true. But the better indicator or how shifty an areas is, is poverty.... the poors are the ones to blame for most of the shittiness, but a lot of times you don't even see the social economic status of the area.... you'll see five times the post citing the race of areas or neighborhoods.

I don't live it BR, and I don't ever see myself ever moving back there for any reason

But I also don't see the point in going on a message board and showing out letting people know how big ignorant a pussy you are for letting a city get your panties in a wad.....

Any metro area in the US over a couple hundred thousand people will ALL have some things to do and a lot of times a place is what you make it.... I find the people that bitch and moan about something or someplace being 'boring', 9 out of 10 times that person is projecting and they themselves are boring individuals....

Baton Rouge has its flaws but anyone should be able to a damn good time if they choose to if they aren't a stick in the mud.

Been living in BR for roughly 5 years now.

Lived the previous 27 years of my life around the New Orleans area.

I couldn't be happier living here. It's leaps and bounds better than living in or around nola.

people want to compare BR to the city 90 miles Sourh East of it, and that just isn't fair... People are showing Thur colors so to speak..... it anyone has ever done any traveling they will know not many metro areas with <1mm population will compare with Nola, shite I'll go as far as zero areas will compare....

With that said, majority of places are what you make it... I understand if you are in a small town where there really isn't anything to do, but ANY. City will actually have shite to do and it usually doesn't take much effort past google to find it
