Not necessarily. Just mainly pointing out from an outsider's standpoint...there isn't much appealing about BR. My husband has never been impressed with BR the times he came with me to visit(he thinks the city is very depressing). It must be telling that anytime there is a thread on this topic...you have SEVERAL posters that used to live in BR that feel the same way.

Its not telling at all. Its the internet and its typical for people to hate on shite for no reason. The internet is filled with the vocal minority. Obviously its going to be hard for your husband to have a positive outlook on a city that you dont care for.

This board hates to hear it...but outside of the South, I've met several people that don't really have a great impression with Louisiana in general(except for visiting NOLA...which everyone seems to love to visit).

But yet its constantly listed as one of the happiest states. And those that dont like BR for no reason hate to hear that a lot of those who live in it, actually like the city for what it is. I have numerous friends from other states that have fell in love with the people and lifestyle here.

The horror of people giving thier opinions on a forum designed for opinions

Pretty crazy stuff man...
and it's always the "Well, just move if you don't like it so much".

That gets tiresome. Some people are stuck here and not because of family. Some people have business tied up in this city and it would be financial suicide to move away.

Honestly I think those that lived in BR and hated it and moved away like discussing that with others who did the same. It's like sharing your war stories with one another

And because this is an LSU board...naturally you are gonna have a huge population of those that live or lived in BR at some point. I'm sure other message boards that the majority of their posters lived/live in the same city could have the same threads pop up about how horrible a certain city was.

I've known more people like OP than I can count.

They bitch about BR and retreat to Houston or Dallas, only to be begging for a chance to come back in 6 mos. to a year

Besides, you sound like a dumb shite off the bat when you complain about traffic in a city of 250,000 before wanting to move to a city of 8 million.

Have you ever been to the Syrup City? Houston traffic makes us look like Busch League

You cant complain about the lack of something when it really isnt feasible.

Thats kind of the point though. Either they can't have it, or they choose not to have it, either way that absence carries the same weight as a negative for quality of life.

Yeah, several of my friends from HS have moved away from LA to various parts of the country.

Not one of them has moved back to LA. All have agreed they are much happier living out of LA now.

Great ISD's - check

No state income tax - check

better road systems built for the future - check

Politicians who care about the community and state without robbing the populous blind - check

Great shops and eateries - Check.

Overflow of available well paying jobs - Check

I could go on but the main appeal for Texas period is the ISD's. Community schools are what makes the entire state great and makes people want to move their families there.

I think some people there are just stuck there cause all their family still lives there. They don't want to move and be away from family so they stay there and try to justify in their head how wonderful BR is.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone in my entire life say Baton Rouge is a "wonderful" place. Because it isn't. Y'all are big on the strawmen. It's not a horrid place to live as a young professional but certainly has its (many) flaws. And as you alluded to, many (me included) have a rosier view of the place because it is our hometown and/or we have lots of friends and family here. I enjoy living here and have ample things to do, people to hang out with, places to eat, etc. I have no intentions of staying here forever, largely because I'd like for my children to get a decent public education
