I lived in Roanoke and Charlottesville. Absolutely loved both. I was in the mountains and it is beautiful. Good people, nothing special about the food though. Nothing bad, nothing outstanding. Far from the beach but otherwise amazingly beautiful.

My Aunt Janis lived in Lewisburg. She passed away just a bit over a month ago. My cousin and her family still reside there. It is most definitely one of the most beautiful places in West Virginia. White Sulphur Springs and The Greenbrier are just a few minutes away as well.
I used to go hunt farm fields for arrow heads with Uncle Melvin all around that area this time of year when the soil is freshly turned. Found well more than my fair share of them. (Oh, for those days long since past!)

Everything this guy said is spot on.
NOVA sucks. Richmond sucks. Too many liberals and undesirables.
And then you have deal with Maryland drivers. Fuuuuuuuuck.
The small towns and rural areas are nice.

I lived just across the state line. I love SW Virginia (Damascus, Grayson Highlands area).

Stationed in Norfolk once upon a time. A lot of that area is ghetto as frick. Traffic was a disaster and it got surprisingly cold at times in the winter. Weather overall was really nice though.

Two years in Martinsville and two near Smith Mountain lake. Weather was great near the lake. My time in Martinsville, I spent many weekends driving down to High Point to see gf that played ball there. Didn’t like Martinsville nearly as much as being up further North.

Yes.
There are essentially 2 Virginias: NOVA and everywhere else. It is a pretty good temperature area. Gets hot through the summer and gets snow in the winter.

I have lived in the southwestern part of the state for the last 15 years. It's cold in the winter, but the summers are nothing close to what I experienced living in Baton Rouge for most of my life. We had two days of heavy snow earlier this week, yet it was back up into the 60s today.
We live in a rural area; the entire county only has 26,000 people. There are plenty of places to hike, fish, or hunt. There's not much in the way of crime either.

You've never been to Norfolk in February.

Yes I have spent a lot of time in Virginia, here is what I can tell you..,
1. The weather is the best of both worlds (especially the coast) the summers are not incredibly hot and winters not miserably cold either.
2. The terrain is very diverse
3. The scenery is beautiful
4. A lot of fun as well.
Good luck!

My son and his family lives in Northern VA....About 40 miles from DC. They've been there for about 12 years and they have enjoyed it.

Blacksburg is God’s country
I grew up about an hour east of there.

We moved here (Chesterfield, VA, suburb of Richmond) about a year ago from LP. The State itself is nice, all four seasons, plenty of things to do, but the biggest downfall is the politics. NOVA is the devil along with the newly elected Dem Governor. Over-all, beautiful state, especially South and West of Richmond.

I have family living in the Harper’s Ferry area.
It’s amazing and I would absolutely move there. Cost comparable to southern metro areas

I live in NOVA. It’s really nice but the people are all insane.

Lived in lovely Quantico, VA for 6 months in '86. Didn't have time to enjoy the environs, though.

I remember the bumper sticker “Virginia is for lovers.” I think it’s their state marketing motto.

I’m a native Virginian and would return to the western part of the state. Democrats have pretty much ruined everything else.
This. Bristol-Abingdon is beautiful but you'd be captive to a bunch of jackasses from DC suburbs and their voting habits. I'd live across the line in NC or TN.
