Hatcher was the best dorm on campus.
Perfect location next to the stadium. I had a second floor room behind a fire door. I couldn’t hear anything going on in the rest of the building. It was perfect.
If I could still live there, I would.

I lived in Hatcher in the fall of 1985. Had no idea there was a cafeteria, but did use the washateria in the stadium. Was sent to Dean Blemling’s office a few times for fireworks and fire extinguishers.

Fall 1985 - Spring 1986 #216. It was like it's own little world.

I lived in Power in the late 80s. No keys, but they had these combination locks to open the room doors. The combinations weren't too hard to figure out.

Hey MMauler. Could you tell me a little about Power Hall? Did they tear it down at some point? And what kind of dorm/was it a party dorm?
Whatever you know about it; any good stories would be appreciated. I used to visit a friend at LSU in the late 80's and have some vague, hard to remember exactly memories, with Power Hall being a central character.
Thanks

No AC the whole time…it was fine. Loved living there.

When did the bar in Hatcher close? I lived there (3rd floor) in fall ‘84 and spring ‘85 and I don’t remember it. It seems like I’ve heard about it before though.

Stayed in Hatcher for a few days in the early 90s for somehting called Spring Testing.. not sure if they still do it, but back then if you had a certain score on ur ACT (i think it was 26?) they invited you to come for a few days during your last semester in high school and try to test out of certain freshman yr classes.. ive always been extremely right-brained, so i bombed all the science/math shite but tested out of a couple English/Writing/Social Studies courses.. cant remember if Hatcher had A/C, but when i came back in the Fall they’d closed it permanently.. wound up flunking out of LSU but have done ok in life, considering.

Kirby Smith ‘86 checking in. Suite mate was the RA. He brought his bong in my room day 1. That relieved any worries about the RA…

I lived in Johnston, no heat or AC. It sucked

Hatcher was the perfect dorm. Perfect location, A/C, rooms were comparatively big. Right next to the stadium and the quad.
I had a room on the second floor behind a fire door. No noise.
If I could still live there, I would.

Lived in West Laville on the 3rd floor. It did not have A/C. The heat was another issue, it was steam heat. When it became cold in the fall the staff would switch on the steam heat . By the time the radiators got hot the fickle Louisiana weather would get warm again. Had to open the windows in order to survive.

Hatcher and Power dorms had a/c., lived in both. Hatcher elevator never worked, haha, old building. Fun during game days.

A friend lived in Hatcher in the early 1980’s. One time, someone took a big dump in the urinal. The log remained there unmolested for a day or two and then someone stuck a plastic fork in it.
Power was nice. They sheared the deadbolt pins in the doors but you could take apart your closet door and swap it for a good one. I had a buddy who lived there and in the Spring semester there were empty rooms because of students who failed out or just moved. He was able to remove the ceiling tiles in his room and climb into the empty room next door, unlock the door, and let people crash there overnight. Missile Command in the lobby!
