West Texas is absolutely booming right now.

I wouldn’t say that. Midland appears to be booming, MAYBE Odessa. El Paso has a slowing growth rate, and not much going on in San Angelo.

The last time I worked out there, my per-diem was $218/day. That was about 3 years ago...

I feel the same way. I love that stretch of I10/I8 from Junction to El Centro.

Even though it is Texas, NM, Arizona, and California, I like the desert.

No clue on El Paso but Midland/Odessa is booming big time. Everyone is hiring and theres not enough people to hire.

Midland/Odessa is not as bad as everyone is saying. I actually like the area and have gotten use to it when i go there. It is dry no doubt not alot of rain there and at times its windy and hot in the summer.

I agree with this. I like Midland. Hell, I could enjoy ANYWHERE for six months.

There sure are some bitchy arse bitchers on this thread.

Everywhere sucks. Where I live sucks. Where you want to go sucks. The grass is suckier on the other side and suckier here. fricking sucks.

Did I get it right?

Probably even worse now that Craigslist and Backpage is down.

Had friends out there and gathered that most of them sit in hotel room and drink lol.

Same friends are known to enjoy prostitutes

my wife and i are from west Texas (San Angelo and Abilene) and i wouldn't move there for 500k a year.

Her brother was actually offered a steady, no stress job that won't go anywhere for 300k base with easy bonuses and he said no thanks.

take these words to heart.

That's a $3-400k house in Angelo or Abilene

This is a $100-120k house

I ain't really worried about stuff to do,i will be working 6 days a week,10 hours a day.

If this is the case, I would go there in a heartbeat as long as the money is good.

As the others say, west tx is a harsh climate...hot and dusty in the summer, cold and windy in the winter.

on the positive side, the oil and gas money there keeps the economy pretty vibrant. I find the people (at least the natives) very friendly and the food is damn good.

one thing I do miss when I am out there is green vegetation...I am used to lush, green plants everywhere.

Pecos, Orla, Fort Stockton, Seminole
more work than they have workers in that whole area.

Ain’t too bad. Lots of work going on. Midland’s more white collar, Odessa more blue collar. Kinda similar to Lafayette in terms of population. Not a ton to do, but people like to spend money (drinking, eating out, etc...)

meaning in South Louisiana, shade doesn’t give you much relief from the heat.
it’s still hot humid and nasty.

in Midland, if you find a shadow, there is a very noticeable difference.

another cool thing is how late it gets dark out there.
you’re so close to Mountain time zone, that it’s like your operating in central time, but the sun is on Mountain time.

like still very daylight at 9:30pm (summer months)

OK, nobody has told the joke about you don't have to go outside to see which way the wind is blowing: just check the color of the dust storm.

That said, I've been there, worked for people who work there and many love the wide open spaces and find cities confining and not their thing. They also love hunting, in a serious way, if that's your thing.

Being in that part of Texas and being able to stand up, turn 360 degrees and see sky and no ugly buildings.

If you meet the locals, access to the Solitario is cool. The PaloDuro Canyon isn't that far away.

Competition Chili Cook Offs are footstomping crazy.

I would take a steady no stress job for 300k plus bonuses in outer Mongolia.

I have done time all over.

You can have a greenhouse.

It will help if you like football.
You can get a ranch outside town.
