Ahh yes, the Chicken Tax. You can lay this one at the feet of Arkansas, especially Don Tyson lol:

The Chicken Tax

Eventually, it all ended with a bunch of import restrictions on American chickens into Europe, causing a 25% loss of business for US chicken exporters. This pissed off the US so much that a senator from Arkansas once even interrupted a NATO conference about nuclear armament to complain about chickens. We were pissed.

No tach either - sure hope you can hear it, because otherwise you’ll be using your sense of smell.
pretty sure I never look at my tach when shifting unless I'm just trying to get into the red. Who can't tell when they need to shift?

Id have that as my daily driver. Damn shame how far we’ve gotten away from simple and practical trucks.

“Four-wheel-drive and diesel variants will also be offered”

So for about 12-15 grand you could have a diesel, 4 wheel drive, based off the hilux. Take my money please.

F CARB and all the other us nanny state garbage.

What’s the law on buying a car in Mexico and bringing it into the US?

So with the 25% tax it would be $15K in the US. They could go $18K and sell the shite out of them.
Ford Maverick is up to almost $24K for base model now. Different vehicle but people are looking for savings anywhere they can. This would corner the local delivery vehicle market.

Removing the Chicken Tax would introduce competition and lower costs.
Also, a smaller truck would fill a useful market niche for companies or individuals not needing to haul large items.

I've never had a manual transmission that DID have a shift light.

For sure. Id keep my long paid off, old arse 100 series just to haul the family around when needed. A 4wheel drive one of these would be my new daily driver. Based off the Hilux I’d expect it to last 25 years plus as well. All for less than 15k. Only aftermarket add ons I’d do is AC (I mean come on it’s Louisiana) and possibly cruise control.

Hell yeah, if it's got AC that would be a great daily driver. For ~$10K that's a helluva deal considering 25 year old mid 90's Nissan 4 banger trucks are fetching over $10K with a LOT of miles on them.

You can import them, but they are not street legal in some states, Texas being one of them. If I had a big farm or ranch I'd buy one for farm use though.

And somehow they'll get money from the USA to buy them. We didn't leave enough stuff behind with the withdrawal.

What's stopping someone from shipping this here on the DL, then slapping some after market parts on it to make it look different?

Will insurance not insure it or something?

Not by much. Our safety and emission requirements are massive cost drivers and Toyota would likely not develop those for these stripped down cheap model vehicles.

Now, relax the safety and emissions regs and boom. Stick shift 1 ton dually Toyota trucks with no air bags rolling coal for $26k off the lot. Biggest truck nuts ever.

The Vin # is the problem. You'd have to do some very illegal shite to square that part away.

You basically have to VIN-switch it with a clapped-out old Tacoma. That would get it past the registration office (even though that would require two felonies), but then you run into trouble with the insurance company.
