As a lawyer, I see huge potential for AI in the legal field, but right now, even the most sophisticated AI tools designed for attorneys are lacking.

I know, right? I asked my AI legal assistant to grossly over-bill a client, and it did not know how to do it. What a disappointment to the legal profession.

Autonomous mowers that operate like Roombas are becoming increasingly popular with golf courses and the wealthy. Soon enough the tech will be cheap enough for everyone to own one.

Yup. This one by Yarbo has attachments that can be used for mowing, snow blowing, etc. It's expensive right now, but I'm sure the prices will drop quickly as more companies start developing competing products:

seems like it'd be more likely that paralegals are replaced. Like you said, lawyers will push for laws that protect them.

Education is about relationships and connections as much as it's about the development of knowledge.

I don't see it being disrupted as much as this model suggests, unless we end up with an even more imbalanced educational system where rich people get the brilliant human teachers who provide holistic support and everyone else gets the AI bot.

Oh my sweet summer child.

Does one have to be a member of the Bar to practice law?

Are there any computers on the Bar Admission Committee?

Do you think it's likely that Bar members will vote to put computers on the Bar Admission Committee?

I have legal documents uploaded in projects on ChatGPT and I can ask it about anything related to those legal documents and it gives me specifically what I want to know and you can ask it to give it to you in laymen's terms.

But I can ask it a question "Applying Louisiana's laws, legally how would this situation work out?" It can be about divorce, child support, land... Anything and it gives you that information along with the sources it pulls it from.

Sometimes it might not give you everything or not apply something at first but you can tell it that you thought ____ played a factor and it will recheck. It makes it easier for everyone to have access to information that should be easily accessed. Lawyers will still be needed. You will still need a lawyer's signature, etc but it will help you write a will step by step so the lawyers who only do "paper work". Wills, secessions, etc, etc the well will dry on a few of those.

There are staggering job losses coming in the West, and I don't think governments and societies are prepared for it. We’re in new territory, where new technology outright replaces vast swaths of humans instead of making them more productive.

I would think the insurance industry would fight them… no one would ever pay their premiums again

Did you notice in yesterday’s news cycle that the politicians in some state were kicking around a law to prevent AI from doing legal, medical or dental work? I’m afraid the lawyers won’t go quietly into the night.

Your point would stand if it was one person saying what's coming. It's most, if not all. They have access and the knowledge of the tools to know what they're capable of. The strides being made now are exponential.

Will AI take every job in every industry? Not anytime soon. Will it disrupt almost every industry leading to huge workforce reductions? Absolutely.

I definitely was thinking legal would end up taking a hit from AI.

A computer with an infinite legal knowledge within seconds is way more valuable than any lawyer

“Hey Grok, what are some of the most outlandish predictions Elon Musk made about the future years ago that have failed to come to fruition on his predicted timeline. List the top 5. Be concise with your answer.”

So your response to me saying it was much more than one person predicting the future of AI...is focusing on one person's predictions

good paralegals are safe. How are you going to get AI to call the clerks office to fix a filing?
