When I was 9 or 10 our school allowed a dad to come onto the playground and confront his son's "bullies". His son pointed kids out one by one, the dad would nod and go and talk to them. The kid pointed to me for some reason (I don't remember doing anything specific to him). The semi-long haired dad walked over to me, shook my hand, and said, "I just wanted to thank you for calling me a gorilla." To this day I don't know WTF that was all about.

Kinda crazy. Our parents never got into our fights, bullies, friends, or enemies. They let us work it out.

Times are different.
Used to be kids got it from all the neighborhood parents or for the really delinquent ones they'd go fall down the stairs at the local PD.
And that wasn't always right as violence begets violence.
But an open hand slap? That's just gonna sting and smart and be embarrassing but it's no mob whipping or a belt. Its marks the kid temporarily as the shite he is. frick I'd be mad only if the parents never came forward and told me my kid was being a shite. Just so the kid would know he'd have two dad's to deal with if he kept it up.
