You think this is for the inmates? It's for the daughters who had no part in the decision that separated them from their father.

How do you break cycles of bad decisions in families? Show the next generation the results of poor decision-making and allow those who failed to share that with their kids in a way that speaks to them and encourages them not to repeat the same mistakes.

I would encourage anyone who can to sign up with a prison ministry to go into one. It will be an eye-opening experience for you.

I would bet that the more violent criminals, i.e. the crime that they committed, aren't eligible for this type of thing.

And I would also expect that these men had to be pretty involved in this ministry to receive this privilege.

Yeah clearly it’s better to make good choices and never be in that situation.
But cool to see there are people out there who don’t give up on folks that easily.

We’re all sinners.

If you’re a Christian we are granted redemption from our sins via faith in Jesus and repentance.

Even if you aren’t a Christian most of these guys will get out and need to find a place in society after serving their sentences.

And if that’s not enough it has a positive impact on the daughters who get a brief positive memory with their father.

Bottom line, none of us “deserve” it, but short of capital crimes there has to be some sort of redemption through repentance and growth or they will just cause more problems when released.

I'm absolutely not trying to shite on this, I think ultimately these girls deserve to have some normalcy and happiness in a life that is devoid of a father. I can't imagine that sadness.

But I also wonder what these guy's crimes are. Murder? Theft? Drugs?

If they murdered some innocent person, I definitely don't think they should be rewarded with any happiness. Drugs, theft, etc., let them have some bit of happiness.

But again, I'm torn because the girls don't deserve this. It's a really tough one for me.

Jesus was an innocent person who was murdered. How has God rewarded the ancestors of the people who killed him? We never know when, how or who may benefit from an act of kindness but that act of kindness is the only thing that will have the possibility of making a difference in someone's life long after you are gone.

While I agree, this is probably more about the kids.

The kids didnt do anything to deserve alienation.

Their daughters absolutely do. They didn’t do anything wrong here. Watching them run to their dads was priceless and beautiful.

Asshat because I want a daughter to have a moment with their dad? When you grow up and have kids of your own, you will understand. Maybe not prison, but you will blow it one day, and hope your kids still love you.

I agree with you. But there's more to the story.

Most of these inmates (probably all) never gave a passing thought to fatherhood while they were out thuggin' it. It wasn't until they were incarcerated that the found Jesus and became new creations.

It's only then that God planted the idea in their heart of a father-daughter dance. Most of these girls never had their dad tuck them in at night, celebrate their birthdays, hug them, play with them, kiss them, tell them they were loved. Tell them they're beautiful. Tell them they were created in the image of God - fearfully and wonderfully made (Ps. 139).

In time they will learn about the crimes their dad committed. Most of the inmates won't be getting out of Angola any time soon, if at all. And this is a fleeting moment to bridge a father-daughter relationship.

Finally, the inmates who've met the Lord Jesus are born-again. Forgiven. They'll be in Heaven with Jesus (and me) while the self-righteous perish eternally. It's a good day to get saved.
