What do you do for entertainment? Is the Disney-loving coworker borrowing money from you to go?
If not, what difference does it make to you how many times a year he goes?
I worked with many serious deer hunters and bass fisherman who lived and breathed their chosen hobby most of their time off from work, but it isn't our place to judge whether their hobby is foolish or doesn't seem right to you.
Bottom line, stay in your lane....you do you and let the guy enjoy his life in any way he sees fit.

It is a bit strange, but not as strange as starting threads whining about how others spend their money.

I can see where the negative connotation might come from, but I think that's different from saying it's "wrong." I can see an argument that our growing class of super hero/disney/etc. obsessed adults isn't great for society and/or is indicative of a culture that is too focused on fleeting, mindless things.

I do think it's interesting to observe social phenomena and how it might connect to broader trends, but I'm not trying to be the fun police here.

I think you and I are on the same page, but the OP specifically asks for validation that something is wrong with adults who go to disney.

I don't think it's great for society, either. Then again, I don't think it hurts society. I think there are a ton of things that provide leisure activities for people that are pointless. People love to take the boat out on the lake, and I think that, just generally, is a much larger net negative than a childless adult going to Disney.

That's just my opinion, and I understand people might not agree. But I'm also not calling people spending money on a boat, gas, a truck to haul, yeti cooler a plague on society. I just don't like that activity.

I don't give much thought to how other adults spend their money. If it makes them happy, that's great. They aren't hurting anyone, and as more people go to Disney that means fewer people go to the places I like. I'm sure there are a lot of people who would be astonished at how much some people spend on fishing or hunting or golf gear. Or how much I spend at restaurants.

Everyone has their own version of fun.

Some people its a comfort factor. Some people its all they ever know. Some people just actually really enjoy it.

Some people love backpacking. Others find it repulsive to think about doing.

Some people love traveling to big cities. Other wants ZERO part of that.

Some people love beaches. Others find beaches boring.

Some people like Disney. People always love to shite on disney likers.

To each their own

It's not my cup of tea, but how is it any different than adults shelling out hundreds to thousands of dollars for 8 saturdays to watch 18 to 21 year olds fight each other in a crowded stadium?

ETA: And don't get me wrong, I love going to football games and really any sporting event in person, but I can also see how silly it can be perceived.

I think it's a microcosm of one of the big things that is an issue in our society today.

This 1 dude with this thought about Disney, not really affecting anything.

But this mindset that so many have where they are so concerned and melting over shite that has no bearing whatsoever on their lives instead of just minding their business and taking care of your own shite is a huge issue in our society today.

People invent reasons to be mad that are entirely unnecessary.

I'm sure there are plenty of ways to skin that cat. If someone looked at all of the things we all did every year, I'm sure they'd see something they'd call wrong like you have.

Sure, Disney is a terrible company with regards to their politics and agendas, but some people don't live every day of their lives by politics and just want to enjoy going to an amusement park. It's no surprise that it's a fun experience because they have 18 fajillion people going to those parks every day.

I think you could make the case that if they are spending more money than they should be affording then they have a problem. I don't concur that it's a weird thing to WANT to go enjoy 4 times a year.

My buddy and I were just chatting it up the other day talking about our wives that have purses that cost over $1k and I was just talking about how it makes no sense whatsoever how or why they'd spend that much on a purse.

My buddy said, "Didn't you lose $1k gambling a couple of nights ago?"

Dude's arguing that people are weirdos for going on vacation to a place they concede is clean, happy, and predictable.

Because there is this toxic mentality that once you become an "adult" that you aren't allowed to enjoy shite that your kid may enjoy... and that's just a miserable way to go about life.

As long as you can provide for yourself and your family as a functioning member of society, is it really a mental illness to enjoy riding roller coasters?

There was a thread I think yesterday with a dude talking about liking horror movies/rock music/video games and 1 person replied talking about how childish all 3 of those hobbies were.

Fair point in a bubble but isn't a big part of the complaint with Disney parks that they have ridiculously long lines, outrageously priced hotels, amenities and fast passes and an overall mess of overcrowded chaos. Adding a bunch of weirdos with Peter Pan Syndrome only makes those problems worse, thereby causing harm.

Let's consider two other scenarios:

(1) Your 8 year old child really wants Santa Claus to bring him the new Star Wars toy for Christmas. You go to the store to buy it but they are all sold out because a bunch of overgrown nerds decided they still want to play with toys in their 30s.

(2) You take your kid to the park to play on the playground. Oops, every single swing, slide and jungle gym is occupied by a childless loser and they ain't leaving.

Disney is a commodity subject to the laws of supply and demand. When the curve gets wrecked by interlopers, the intended audience suffers. My point is leave the kid stuff for the kids and grow the f--k up and live a normal, productive adult life. And we're not even touching the deeper issue of how these fools act the other 360 days of the year when they aren't prancing around Orlando in some emotionally stunted fantasy where Tinkerbell is real and some dude in a cape and tights will save everything. You want to live in a society dominated by 10 year olds? Good luck with that.
