ETA: And that toxic "be a stuffy adult" mentality does exist based on some in this thread.

Maybe so. Although in the typical "you could take your kids to Europe" type discussion, I think there is plenty of merit to that argument that isn't just stuffy-no-fun-adult.

On a somewhat related note, I think there is definitely some baw humbug (ha) stuff in our culture because of the popularity of fantasy/superhero/disney/etc. I'm part of this. I'm annoyed that dudes older than me fill the movie/TV board with threads about the detailed casting of some stupid obscure comic I've never heard of. There is definitely some "Can you nerds grow up and leave some entertainment bandwidth for the rest of us" going on in our society and I do think that carries over to the Disney stuff.

I don’t get why adults go to Disney.

This is a "hobby" where a shite ton of grown arse men lose their minds and call kid's names whether on TD or actually to the kid on social media when the kid chooses to go do a different school than their favorite team.

Point being, there are loons on the extremes of both and most anything people do.

Absolutely. I think at its core, watching elite athletes compete, from the school you attended (theoretically) is pretty normal. But yeah, like travel ball or golf or cars or whatever, being unhealthily obsessed with CFB isn't good.

What does this even mean? Are you implying that any adult that goes to disney without a kid is insane? If so, you should say it and also provide some statistics. What if someone spends $15k on a boat? What about some bourbon? What about an extra vehicle because they like it? What are the criteria? Is it on a case by case basis to be decided by you as to what qualifies as an acceptable endeavor?

I cannot imagine living by this mentality every day. You’re a problem.

It’s a sad existence if a grown adult needs a therapy trip to Disney alone. They’ve hit rock bottom.

Idon't understand it either but -

Some people spend thousands on LSU football season tickets and tailgating. And spend their whole Saturday out there. It's their thing.

Some men spend thousands of dollars on fishing boats, rods, reels and tackle. And many hours on a Saturday or Sunday on a lake somewhere fishing.

Some grown arse men collect WWE and AEW wrestling figures and never open the packaging...

I don't get the allure of Disney or the crowds and entertainment.....

But I do understand people having an escape or enjoying something in their own free time.

i used to coach little league baseball. Like, a lot.

Normal is only what is socially acceptable, which is what adult sports fandom largely is, but at it's core, it's just as ridiculous and frivolous as enjoying Disney as an adult.

But again, what's the true difference between that and someone who has season tickets to LSU and the Saints and spends 12-16 full weekends a year on football and a shite ton of money?

Don't get me wrong, that's infinitely more fun IMO than Disney, but that's not the nature of this discussion.

I don't understand it either, but apparently some people have a huge fascination with Disney. A coworker and his family just went to Disney for 15 days, stayed on the premises and he stated he spent $15,000!

I think it's insane, but they're going back to Disney this summer with another trip to Universal Studios in December! I enjoy Disney every few years, but wasting an extreme amount of money for a little fun is not my cup of tea.

Are you really living a normal, productive life if you're having complete meltdowns over what other adults do that have no bearing on your life whatsoever?

I'm not having a meltdown because it doesn't effect me at all. I have never been to Disneyworld and have no desire to. I'm just presenting a counterargument.

And I'm expressing sympathy for the kids who don't get to enjoy it because the prices are too high or the lines are too long. And part of that, as stated, is because a bunch of immature, childless adults have honed in on their action. Let kids do the kid stuff in peace and you can go do something else.

Yea, that mentality that you should do whatever you want to do and people should stop worrying so much about what others do...that's definitely the problem!

Everyone has outlets for their own happiness. If it isn't intruding on your own happiness, why do you care?

It was more of a general question, but I hear ya.

It's not a consumer's job to make shite cheap for other kids.

We can use the same sports examples. What about kids that are obsessed with sports and want to go to the Super Bowl or NBA Finals Game 7 and have good seats...the logic is exactly the same...grown ups are ruining for those kids too.

Probably. There is some belief that grown ups should give up known fantasy at some point of their lives too.

If it gets them through life, go to Disney. People sometimes get fixated to avoid pain. Sometimes in childhood it is lifelong. I think this is rather low on my list to criticize.

My issue personally would be the minimal payoff, at least to me directly. Traveling I get - I like to see cities and absorb history and the experience of new cultures. I like to read, do outdoor stuff, collect things, shoot guns, work on skills, learn things. I don't think Disney offers much there, although Disney is such a vast thing that I'm sure there is plenty of craft in knowing it and navigating it.

But all that said "but...I enjoy it" isn't without merit.
