I like 98 cent bulbs.

That’s the whole point. We couldn’t until now.
Which is why the lifting of the ban is the correct decision. It doesn't affect my opinion that incandescent bulbs are an inferior product.

In incandescent bulbs the filament burns out.
In LED bulbs, the driver stops working.
Pick your poison I suppose.

I had the kitchen and bathroom redone. All lights in there had the led bulbs.
They didn't last a year. No savings on that shite.
I doubt you will be able to see the savings of switching out a few light bulbs on your power bill.
The amount of power any bulb draws is negligible on a monthly power reading I'm guessing. It may save you $1.12 per month or something small like that.
But when you have millions of bulbs being powered in the country, it could matter more.
There are other hills to die on. I like LED lamps. They work fine for me, and you can find some really nice looking lamps. We have some really cool looking LEDs in the light rack over our kitchen island.
Not much of my income goes to buying light bulbs. I haven't bought a bulb in at least two years.

Incandescents generate heat to keep my well pump from freezing and don't interfere with my garage door opener like LEDs did.
Slowly replacing interior bulbs with LEDs though. We have incandescent bulbs going on 25yrs old in less used portions of the house.

Last longer my arse but they sure do cost more.
Buy shite get shite. Amazon basics LED bulbs are cheap as hell, but you'll be lucky if they last a year. Feit electric is also crap

The reason everyone is so depressed now is because of led bulbs. Incandescent bulbs have a similar uv profile to sunlight and office drones that work inside with the women wouldn’t be so depressed but now that everybody switched to led they got all yall pink collar types taking pills and going to therapy

Be careful. A lot of folks on this board don't like you having options.

What’s the UV profile of fluorescent bulbs Gauch? Inquiring minds need your expertise.

I agree !
The LED bulbs rated for installation inside an enclosure (more expensive) can possibly last longer, but a fair amount fail prematurely.
One of the posters above had it right: when LEDs became the only choice the lifespan diminished with enclosure rated and non enclosure rated...and the cost went up. The opposite of what should have happened.
Truthfully I love certain LEDs in drill presses, grinder light, and shop lights - but really missed the soft glow of a filament in a clear incandescent.
The light bulb sh*tshow of the last 30 years has been astounding. My favorite was the 2x expensive florescent cork screw that were a toxic waste dumps...lol. Every environmentalist I know went all in on those and then had egg on their face.

I'm good with LED bulbs but some applications require incandescent like in the oven.

Also, they flicker every time my oven or AC kicks on.

Stop buying the cheapest bulbs available, and make sure they're fit for use in the enclosure you're installing them in. 5,500 sq foot house, I replaced all the bulbs with LEDs.
Even the "cheap" ones have increased in quality. The commercial electric integrated trim bulbs from Home Depot are a game changer, When these first came out 10 years ago they were roughly $25 each. They are now ~$8 (cheaper than 60W recessed can incandescent bulbs that still require the trim piece), are 9.5 watts and brighter than a 60W incandescent.
As a coastal builder, we buy 5-6 dozen for the average build and put them through out the home, including shower/tub areas. We also put them under the home, same as we would inside, and the only issue we have is the trim piece will pit and rust in 2-3 years in a saltwater environment. We solved that by pre-coating the trim by wiping them with some corrosion x. I have 10 cases of these in my home I built in 2020. In that time, I have had to replace one that is nearest the bay front due to a faulty driver.
The best part about them is, the tint selection switch, I like the harshest "blue" tinted lighting under the home and the mid-range warmer tint inside the living areas, and the in between setting for bathrooms. With these, you select the tint you prefer before installing without having to buy 2-3 different shades of bulb.

The dimmer industry is gonna be pissed you aren’t forced to buy the overpriced dimmers anymore.

The brand uses shitty controller circuitry, or your electrical system isn't quite right. Still not the fault of the LED tech, but of a manufacturer or installer.

I had hell finding an incandescent light bulb before the freeze this week. I just wanted something to keep my plants warm. That's another thing government just needs to stay away from. Let the consumers decide what they want, don't ban it. LED is definitely the best way to go with light bulbs in your house, but there are still uses for incandescent.

Who the hell said they are against him having an opinion? This entire thread has been a fairly logical discussion of the benefits and personal experiences of the topic at hand. Literally, a case study in the sharing of opinions.

You can get long lasting (granted, not nearly as long as advertised) bulbs with the same shade of white for basically the same price that are 5-7 times more efficient (or 5-7 times brighter with the same wattage) and they do not heat up a room.

Most actually do, but about 15% of them tend to fail within a year. The rest will last for YEARS. I’ve got some LED bulbs in the house that are 10+ years old.

I went all LED in 2017. I've changed one light bulb since. I have lots of light bulbs too. I've got around 40 bulbs on prem.
